    3. Carter-- It's entirely possible. There were a lot of Roses back then. The original Rose, John, who came to what is now Wolfe Co. about 1801, was married to Rebecca Bowen Rose. They had a number of children, 7 boys and 2 girls. but I don't believe any of them were named James. He had a son, David Bowen Rose who married Sarah Nickell. They had a son, James Nickell, who is my g-g-grandfather. But none of his sons was named James.Wolfe Co. was formed in 1860--just in tim,e for the Civil War. And part of it was taken from Morgan Co . This would be the generation I think you are looking for. My James was born in 1831 and d. 1914. But I have mostly done my direct line, This James you sent was a rather prosperous fellow for those times. The Roses owned a lot of land, I have heard. David Bowen Rose, this James' father is supposed to have purchased a great deal of land from Henry Clay. It was called the Sugar Orchard farm. All that remains of it today is a Cemetery over on Stillwater in Wolfe Co. that is named the Sugar Orchard Cemetery. Do you know any of this James Rose's relatives? that would provide a clue. I wish I could help you more. I know how important it is to find ancestors.
