    3. Thanks Bess. My cousin and I searched and searched for our great grandmother in a census record. Her headstone had her born in 1851 so we did not look in the 1850 census. One day I was in the LDS library in Lexington and was looking for my wife's Russell Family in the Lee Co VA census when out of the blue I found a Rutherford family. My great grandmother was listed as 1. So she was born in 1849 not 1851 as on her headstone. We have never found her in the 1860 census because she was probably in another household with a different name. 3. Hi Carter & Bess,    Your ancestor must be Elizabeth Graham Rutherford. She was the daughter of James Graham (d. 1834) and Esther Spencer of Lee Co., Virginia. Esther Spencer was the daughter of William Spencer (d. bet 1834-135) who was the son of Joseph Spencer and Mary LNU the couple whose many descendants have been under discussion here. In fact all of the Grahams of the Wolfe County area are descendants of the Spencers, because all of them are descended from James Graham and Esther Spencer.     As to the James Rose you mentioned, he was married to Henrietta "Haney" McQuinn, and they lived on the Morgan/Wolfe border, but they had moved there from Owsley County. It seems that most researchers believe him to have been the son of Robert Rose who was the son of John Rose and Rebekah Bowen. I am descend from this John Rose and Rebekah Bowen through their son David.      As to the Spencers, does anyone know who the wife of William Spencer was? He had many children in addition to Esther Spencer Graham. One of them was Jesse Spencer who settled at Quicksand, Breathitt County who was murdered by home guards during the Civil War.      As to Elizabeth Graham Rutherford. The last record I have of her is a  tax list from 1857/58 where she is listed as "Elizabeth Graham" with several children. She was living on Gilmore by her brothers Joseph Douglas Graham and William James Graham. I wonder why? Did she divorce Pierce Rutherford? Also, because this is the last record I can find of her, I presume she died there and was buried in the Joseph D. Graham family burying ground. There are many unknowns in this cemetery and it has been badly damaged by logging activities. 3. Very good, James. You mentioned that you are descended from David Bowen Rose--son of John and Rebecca. Which son of theirs--or daughter--do you descend from. As I mentioned, I am descended from their son, James N. Rose. I was always told that his middle name was Nelson, but I finally got a copy of his death certificate and it had James Nickell Rose. His mother's maiden name was Nickell. James had a son also named David Bowen Rose who married Mary Ann/Catherine Whisman. They are the parents of my grandfather, James Floyd Rose who married Laura Effie Wilson. Her mother was a Swango. My 1st cousin, Judy Spencer, married a David Graham. Those names keep coming on down, don't they? Bess . ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Maxwell" <james_m_maxwell@yahoo.com> To: <kywolfe@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2014 9:08 PM Subject: Re: [KYWOLFE] Spencer Hi Carter & Bess, Your ancestor must be Elizabeth Graham Rutherford.
