Hardin Smith would be my 3X great grandfather. His daughter, Mary/Polly (Polly was a nickname for Mary then) married William i.e, " Dr, Bll" Swango son of Geo. Washington Swango. I found Mary/Polly's death certificate thanks to help from our Wolfe Line Ad. Hardin's wife's name was Elizabeth and they had sons and daughters, as the Bible says. i would be interested in knowing Hardin Smith's parents. I found him in the Breathitt Co. census, 1850. HI Bess... i do believe that Hardin's father's name was also Hardin.... he is listed in the 1830 PERRY Co., KY census, but of course, that census only gives the head of the family's name. Other records i came across show that Hardin {Jr?} was born in Perry Co., KY in 1813 in the 1880 Breathitt Co KY Census it shows: Smith, Hardin 66 KY VA VA Elizabeth 60 NC TN NC Harrison 7 KY KY KY...listed as a grand son Lovelace, Martha 11 KY KY KY this Martha Lovelace is some kin to Elizabeth as Eliz. was a Lovelace before she married Hardin in 1839 / Breathitt Co. she is listed as the daughter of Jeremiah Lovelace [1796 NC - 1877 Breathitt co KY] ...his father is listed as Jonathan Lovelace [no dates given] and her mother was Phoeba Lipps [1797 NC - 1867 KY]...daughter of Jonathan Lipps and Eliz. Bess I did a quick check this morning for hints to your search and found that Hardin was married to the first daughter of Rev. Jeremiah Lovelace. I then found this on the general search about the Lovelace family.... http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lovelace/us/states/ky/Breathitt_Co/ljw0001.Letter_from_Esther_Lovelace.txt It is mostly about the Lovelaces but might give you a place to start searching. Also Breathitt was formed from Clay, Estill, Perry counties in 1839 so information may be those other county archives. I have relatives that never moved from the old farm -- just changed county names. Some in the Ancestry trees are saying his father was Benjamin from Wilkes county NC.
