Wolfe County News - Jan. 12, 1966 J.B. BUCHANAN OF HAZEL GREEN DIES DEC. 31ST J.B. Buchanan, 76, of Hazel Green died Friday December 31st at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington after an extended illness. He was the youngest son of the late George and Gillie Ann Buchanan of Stillwater and a Veteran of World War I having served several months in the European theater of war. He retired in 1955 following eight years with the State Department of Highways, first as foreman in Wolfe County, then as District Maintenance Superintendent. Prior to this he was a merchant at Hazel Green. He served as a member of the County Fiscal Court one term, 15 years as a member of the Soil Conservation Board of Supervisors and was a special deputy Director for the State Division of Banking. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Johnson Buchanan, of Hazel Green; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin L. Mitchell, Middletown, Ohio; three sons, George W. and Roger of Frankfort and Kenneth of Lexington; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Burcham and Mrs. Hazel Combs, Route 1, Campton; and Mrs. Hattie Musgrave, Middletown, Ohio and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Willie, Henry and Edward Buchanan, and one sister, Mrs. Polly Center. The funeral service was held at Hazel Green Christian Church at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with the Reverends Joe Nevius, William Heaton and Oliver Mson officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Green Cemetery with Herald and Stewart Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Carole
