Hi Gail, It's possible the date of the mother's death was off some. I found Rachel in 1880 with an aunt and her grandma, I believe. She's with the Jesse Spicer family, and the mother-in-law is a Jett. Rachel is listed as a niece, age 10 mos. Unless you can find a definite date of death, I think the census is the only proof that the date you have is wrong. I don't think there are any death records for that year in Wolfe Co. I've got a book and they only go to 1878, and then skip to 1903. I couldn't find her father on the census.
