Wolfe County News - June 5, 1957 H.L. WHISMAN, son of John and Mary Ann Whisman, was born August 26, 1871 in Wolfe County where he resided until 1918 when he moved his family to Indiana. Mr. Whisman was married to Alice Chambers and to this union six children were born: John, Frances, and Bob, deceased: Mrs. Anna Russell of Salt Lick; Elisha Whisman, Sunman, and Mrs. Lula Hollon of Milan. His first wife passed away in 1905. On February 24, 1906, Mr. Whisman married Elizabeth Chambers, a first cousin to Alice. This union was blessed with 12 children; Mrs. Alice Brewer of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Gladys Polly of Cincinnati; Mrs. Grace Carter of Versailles; Mrs. Emma Huntington of Friendship; Mrs. Bertie Cambell of Frankfort; Mrs. Eulah Busteed of Milan; Mrs. Ruth Eads of Madison, James Whisman of Cincinnati; Lee Whisman (deceased); Charles Whisman and Frank Whisman of Aurora; and Jeff Whisman of Madison. He also leaves 90? grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. Mr. Whisman led a quiet life of a hard working farmer, and faithfully provided for his large family. He also reared his first wifes brother, John Chambers whose father died when he was an infant. He was a member of the Christian Church at Stillwater, Ky. He showed deep concern during his last illness that all his children meet him in heaven. He suffered a second stroke which paralysed his left side. He lived one week from the time of his stroke. He died at 2:30 on Wednesday afternnon, May 9th. Hiram was a good neighbor. He believed in sharing with others and his home was always open to friends who frequently came to visit with him. He will be greatly missed by friends and his family will feel his absence keenly because of the many memories that will linger of a kind husband and father. Carole
