Wolfe County News - July 24, 1957 HEART ATTACK PROVES FATAL TO VERLON SMITH Verlon Smith, 39, Pine Ridge, died at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Hospital in Winchester where he was admitted Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack while working on a construction project at the Gulf Interstate Gas Transmission Co., plant here. He formerly lived in the South Forks section of Powell County, served from 1950 to 1954 as magistrate of the 4th District, he taught school here a number of years and was formerly employed in the Powell and Lee County oil fields. He was a member of the Campton First Church of God and a former member of the Stanton Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nannie Smith; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Smith, Bowen; three daughters, Misses Yvonne, Lenita and Millie Smith, all of Pine Ridge; a son, Alfred Smith, Pine Ridge; three brothers, William Smith, Florence, J.C. Smith and Hubert Smith, both of Bowen; five sisters, Mrs. Inez Combs, Organia, Ohio; Mrs. Osa Means, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Barbara Berry and Mrs. Alma Anderson of Fairborn, Mich., and Mrs. Ella Jean Chapman, Pointiac, Mich. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Church of God at Bowen by the Rev. Walter Strong. Burial was in the Moreland Cemetery near Bowen. Carole
