Wolfe County News - May 16, 1956 PROMINENT WOMAN DIES OF HEART ATTACK Mrs. Mary Graham McGuire, 66, widow of Walter Turner McGuire, died about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday while enroute to a Lexington hospital after suffering a heart attack. She was in an amburlance driven by Herbert Holman, Jr. deputy Powell County coroner, and accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Armour. It is believed that death struck Mrs. McGuire in the vicinity of Virden. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Clark County Hospital. She had suffred a heart atack a few months ago, but had made substantial progress toward recovery, and had been putting in some time daily at her post of duty. She had hed that position since 1941. She was a member of the Clay City Methodist Church where she served as organist 30 years, and was a charter member of Pilot Knob Eastern Star Chaper, Stanton, and was a member of the Col. George Nicholas Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a charter applicant for the newly formed Auxillary of Robert Gabriel White Post of the American Legion and a former member of the Filson Club. Mrs. McGuire was kind, thoughtful, helpful and courteous to all with whom she came in contact. She had many friends. She served as secretary of the Powell County Chapter of the Red Cross during World War I, was the first Democratic Chairwoman in Powell county and was a member of the National Postmasters Association. Mrs. McGuire's parents were J.B. and Lida Eaton, early settlers of Clay City; Her husband, a native of Lee County, served in the Kentucky Legislature, representing Powell and Wolfe counties in 1921. He also served an interim appointment as Postmaster of Clay City. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Lowell D. Puffenberger, Ashland: two sons, Walter McGuire, Denver, Colorado and Kelly M. McGuire of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Maupin and a brother, John C. Eaton, of Clay City, and two grandchildren. The body was taken to Hearne Funeral Home, Stanton, and prepared for burial and later removed to the residence. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Clay City Methodist Church by the Rev. G.C. Gaunce, burial in the Eaton Cemetery, Clay City. Active pallbearers were Lynn, Johnnie, Louie and Robert Eaton, Harry O'Rear and Asa Mize. Honorary bearers includeded Johnny Kennon, Joe and Tom Mountz, Sam Carr, W.C. Rose, Sr., W.E. Armour, Edmon Burgher, A.G. Shimfessel, John Kimbrell, Otis Powell, J.D. Spaudling and Frank Daniel. Carole
