    3. Wolfe County news - June 1956 GENE TOLSON IN MANEUVER WITH CAVALRY ON IWO Army specialist Third Class Gene Tolson, son of Mrs. Mary M. Tolson, Campton, Ky recently took part in a two-weeks amphibious training exerise with the 1st Cavalry Division's 8th Regiment on the Pacific Island of Iwo Jima. The exercise culminated in a full-scale amphibiouis assault supoported by warships, aircraft and simulated atomic attack. Specialist Tolson is regularly stationed with the 1st Battalion's Headquarters Company of the regiment at Camp Whittington, Japan. Tolson attended Eastern Kentucky State college before entering the Army in October 1953. He completed basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., and arrived in the Far East in December 1954. ------ Wolfe County News - Dec. 1955 AREA SOLDIER PARTICIPATING IN 'SAGEBRUSH' Fort Polk, La - Army Specialist Third Class Carl Banks, 21 son of Mrs. Cara L. Banks, Mary, Ky., is participating in the largest joint Army Air Force manenuver since World War II, Exercise Sage Brush, in Louisiana. Some 110,000 Army troops are testing the lastest concepts of atomic, bacteriological, chemical and electronic warfare. The exercise will end Dec. 15. Specialist Banks, a member of Headquarters and Service Battery of the 3d Armored Division's 41st Field Artillery Battalion, is regularly stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.
