    3. March 4, 1885 HAZEL GREEN HERALD A very sad accident occurred on Gilmore Creek in this co unty last Saturday, resulting in the death of Worden B. Ely, of that neighborhood. It appears that Andy J. Linden was clearing a piece of ground and had invited several to "a working" as is the custom in this section. Ely and Linden were chopping on one tree and Oscar Fallen and a son of Linden's were chopping on another just above them on the hill. Both trees were ready to fall at about the same time and those chopping on the upper tree called out to those below to "look out" when, it is supposed, Ely mistook the warning and thought it was the tree upon which he was chopping to which they referred. Any way, he just stepped back three feet, when the tree from above fell, striking him on the back of the neck and killing him instantly. He was a man of about thirty-five years of age. he leave a wife and one child. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their sorrow. DAYSBORO Amos Nickell is quite low and it is feared he will not get well. Born - To the wife of A. B. Edwards, a few days since, a boy, weight seventeen and a half pounds. The weight being doubted it was again weighed and weighed nearly eighteen pounds. Joe D. Nickell is the father of twenty-two children and one woman their mother. A. Nickell sells men's brogans for $1.35. Morgan County - Maytown J. J. Canoy of Montgomery is in town. J. F. Osborn of Cornwell passed through towns last Thursday enroute to Campton. B. N. Spradling of the firm of Spradling and Hanks, Spradling, Ky., was in town one day last week. W. W. McGuire, of West Liberty has been visiting his father, James H. McGuire of this place. John P. Center, deputy sheriff of Wolfe County has been in town on professional business. At the last meeting of the "Maytown Band of Hope," the following officers were elected: President, W. C. Daniels; vice president, Miss Ella E. Clark; secretary, E. B. May; chaplin and treasurer, R. Bolin.
