Hi, Bill-- I hear they really worked on it. People from Campton and other places in the county pitched in to clear it off. It's up on the hill just above the First Church of God in Campton. I also hear they are keeping it up now that it has been cleaned off. Bess
Thanks Bess. I am glad to hear the Campton cemetery has received some attention. I am too old to travel there again, but I can imagine how it might look. Bill Rogrs Casselberry, FL ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
They did quite a bit of work on this Cemetery about 3 years ago. It should be in much better shape now. I have not been there, but have been meaning to. Bess
Tim, When you get to Hazel Green, just ask someone where the cemetery is and they will be happy to tell you. It's a rather large cemetery--as you may recall --and will not be hard to find. Hazel Green is such a small town now. I am not sure how to tell you other than this. I'm not familiar with the road numbers. I just know how to get there. It's a rather famous cemetery. It shouldn't be hard to find. Bess
thanks for this I c an use it. cora miller blind in oklahoma ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 28, 2007 9:43 PM Subject: Re: [KYWOLFE] Hazel Green Cemetery > This is a link to Wolfe Co. It sounds like the people resting in Hazel Green Cemetery are loved. You cannot say the same for the Wolfe County pioneers resting in the Campton Cemetery. Bill Rogers Casselberry FL ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Mr. Barron, You are correct. The Hazel Green Cemetery is on Rt. #191. Entering Hazel Green from the East on Rt. #191, the route turns right (South) in Hazel Green (the third street) and the entrance to the Cemetery is about 1,000 feet South on 191 on the left and well marked. I'll be there this evening and can get you a GPS fix if you have a GPS system. By the way, Hazel Green was never in Breathitt County. When Hannah Muchmore died, that portion of Wolfe County where Hazel Green is located was part of Morgan County. The Campton cemetery you speak of is known as the Campton Burying Ground and is the resting place of some of this area's "pioneers". It was completely cleared of overgrowth in about 2000 and is maintained by a local club with the assistance of donated funds. Dr. Bill Rice ----- Original Message ----- From: Timothy J. Is Campton Cemetery the name of the cemetery near the Wolfe County Courthouse? My ancestory Caroline (Elkins) Hollon, wife of James Buchanan Hollon, is buried there. When I was last in Wolfe County back in 1998, that cemetery was totally inaccessible and overgrown with brush. I had jotted down that it was "located near the Wolfe County Courthouse on the hill behind the church." Does anyone have knowledge of the current condition of the cemetery? Still overgrown? I'm going there in two weeks. My data on James Buchanan Hollon and Caroline: http://timbarron.net/tree/d0005/I00552.html Timothy J. Barron [email protected] http://timbarron.net

In reference to: * Hannah Mason Muchmore * Born: February 08, 1759, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA * Died: March 17, 1856, Hazel Green, Breathitt County (now Wolfe County), Kentucky, USA * Married: John Gibbs, Sr., January 22, 1783, Guliford, Caswell County, North Carolina, USA At one time, someone informed me that Hannah Gibbs is buried in the Hazel Green Cemetery, supposedly according to one of the Wolfe County, Kentucky, cemetery books. When I was last there in 1998, the grave location was unknown / unmarked. But at a later date, someone informed me that Hannah Gibbs's grave is now found / marked. Can any confirm if she is buried in the Hazel Green Cemetery, whether the grave is now marked, and if known, an approximate location of her grave in the cemetery (i.e. from the gate)? I'll be going to the Hollon / Holland reunion in two weeks, and will be making a stop at this cemetery. Timothy J. Barron [email protected] http://timbarron.net
