I assume they were from the Montgomery Co, KY area where their son Gardner married in 8 March 1884. I am researching the TYRA (TYRE, TYREE) families of early KY. My TYRA's were John TYRA Sr married to Sarah "Sally" GIBBS in Morgan Co, KY. John may have been born in or lived in Montgomery Co, KY. I believe his parents to be Daniel TYRA and Elizabeth (unknown). There are two other siblings to John, Elizabeth "Betsy" Tyra ( b. Montgomery Co, VA) married to James HOLLON (son of George & Elizabeth HOLLON) and Polly TYRA married to Eli Simpkins. Any Connections? Deborah Slager Polo, IL Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Her maiden name is Pelfrey. Her mother was Nettie Pelfrey, Nettie's mother was Candis Roselin Hollan who married Gardner Pelfrey. I would be his great-great grand-daughter I believe. Most of the Trent's info I have agrees with that which you posted. However, the Stokely identified in the 1910 Breathitt Census, below appears to be the son of George W. as you indicated, however can you identify, his wife at that time? And, I'd assume that Mary is the mother of the children in the 1910 census and not Sara Alice WATKINS. Or, is this one of the other Stokely? I have Sara Alice Watkins born about 1893 and Myrtle born about 1902, as indicated in the 1910 census. What do you think? 1910 BREATHITT COUNTY, CENSUS JACKSON TOWN PREC # 1. 3. Wanda, What state were you in? Sounds like you were a long way from Wolfe County. This cemetery is on Bear Pen Creek in Wolfe County. My uncle's wife named the Big Branch Road, Red Bud Mountain when they were living on Big Branch and when they put road signs on the roads, they kept the name. She even painted a sign and placed it at the beginning of the road. It was called the Bear Pen Cemetery many years ago. I have heard it called the Horton, the White and I call it White-Allen because a relative called it that. Her grandparents and some uncles are buried there and I thought since she grew up in Wolfe, she should know. I think I'm correct on this, the White family donated the land for the Cemetery. This is still an open cemetery, there have been four or five burials there in the past five years. There is an Allen Cemetery on Rt. 1812. 3. Hi Carole, We were in Ky. We were on our way back from Tn. Mom took us the long way, because she couldn't remember exactly how to get there. We got off I-75 at Mt. Vernon, I think. It may have been the Berea exit, but they showed where the radio station was, and my step-father used to sing there. We drove east, on lots of mountain roads. I remember it used to be on a road up-hill, but when we found it, we didn't even have to go up a hill to get to it. We passed a small white church. There's a lot of Whites and Allens buried there. My baby brother was buried there. I took pics, but can't find them right now. Wish I could remember more, but I wasn't really interested at that time.
