My grandmother, Mary Whisman, was tragically killed, when my mother was two. Searching for people that might help me understand my roots. I know there was a family split. Does anyone have information on Garret Rose's trial concerning Mary Whisman? Does anyone know where the Native American hertiage comes in to Garret Rose, and why his sister, and my mother were named Arizona? Does anyone have any pictures of Mary Frances, and could tell me any information on her upbringing or history on her people? Garret Hobert Rose was the son of Rosa Bell Rose and Bowen Rose. Rosa Belle Rose had to have been born around 1868. and making Garret Hobert Roses birth near 1889. I believe Mary Frances was killed at age 21. I have been so curious to have contact with someone from the Whisman side that could share any stories with me, bitter or sweet, as my mother's history! is still a mystery to me. 1. [KYWOLFE-L] RE: Wolfe County Obits
    2. Carole Bays
    3. ---------- From: Carole Bays Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 6:21 AM To: 'Ky-Wolfe@rootsweb.com' Subject: Wolfe County Obits I've been asked several times the past few days where these obits are coming from. I thought I posted it at the beginning, but maybe not. I have been going to the Wolfe County Library and getting these from the micro-film. The University of Kentucky micro-filmed these newspapers a few years ago. It seems they subscribe to all the Kentucky county newspapers. For some reason they have not been able to find or obtain any newspapers pre mid 1945. In searching these films, I do however find a few where they have copied the same newspaper twice, and there are probably some missing here and there. I'm just so sorry that we can't get obits and articles pre 1945, a period of time we all need to research., but thankful they have these, even with all the typos and errors. Not bad for a small town newspaper. A lot of us have had these newspapers in our homes, either we subscribed to them or our parents or grandparents. I'll have to admit when I first left home, my grandmother subscribed the News for me, and there were many weeks, I just threw the paper away and finally asked her not to waste her money. Now they have taken on a new meaning for me and I enjoy reading them, wish I could bring them home and read every word. The people of Wolfe County have worked hard getting a new library and it is finally underway. I pass by the site most everyday and watch the progress, and have seen the photo and the color scheme. I can hardly wait to walk in the front door for the first time. There are a lot of goodies on the Library shelves and on micro film. I haven't had time to explore all the other subjects, but plan on it. When you visit Wolfe, stop in and check out all these research items and in a few months the new library. Carole

Before he died in 1932, he sold his shop to Dorsey or Darcy Creech. In the late 1980s, I briefly met Mr. Creech at his home across the road from Bryant's store. 1. [KYWOLFE-L] Emily Cornwell / Cornwall & William Lawson - married 1 Oct 1859
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cornwell, Cornwall, Lawson, Losson, Alexander, Gardner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mBB.2ACE/1951 Message Board Post: Hello All: I am looking for information on the following couple: EMILY CORNWELL / CORNWALL (probably born ca. 1838 though she later claimed 1844) and WILLIAM LAWSON (probably born ca. 1831). The marriage date for this couple was 1 October 1859 according to an affidavit filed by Emily late in her life. The location of the marriage wasn't stated, though I had hoped it would be Morgan Co, KY. I understand that Wolfe County was formed partially from Morgan County. Were there possibly any marriage records transferred from Morgan County to Wolfe County at the time of formation in 1860? A kind person in Morgan County did a lookup for me and did not find this marriage in Morgan County. It appears from the information posted on the Wolfe County site that early courhouse records of Wolfe County were lost in a fire. The only child of the above couple was WILLIAM RILEY LAWSON / LOSSON and he was apparently born in Missouri in November 1860 according to census entries. The county of his birth is unknown. Considerable searching has failed to confirm the birthplace of WILLIAM RILEY LAWSON / LOSSON and there is a possibility that he may actually have been born in Kentucky. WILLIAM LAWSON (the elder) died in 1863 according to Emily's later affidavit. A published account in an 1890's Indian Territory book states that Emily was from Morgan Co., KY and that her father was WILLIAM CORNWELL and her mother was an ALEXANDER of Cherokee descent. The same account, however, also incorrectly names her second husband as a WILLIAM. The writer of that account may have gone a little overboard with the name WILLIAM, therefore the given name of Emily's father is suspect. EMILY (CORNWELL / CORNWALL) LAWSON eventually moved to Indian Territory -- to what is now Pauls Valley & Wynnewood, Garvin Co., Oklahoma. She married (2nd) on 28 Sep 1870, to JAMES W. GARDNER of Choctaw descent. JAMES W. GARDNER was born in 1849 which might have explained why Emily apparently "grew younger" before she married him. EMILY & JAMES W. GARDNER had a number of children. I know nothing about the parents of either Emily Cornwall or William Lawson, though I have seen some likely suspects and hope to find out more. There is an Emily Cornwall and a William Lawson of appropriate age in the 1850 census of Morgan Co., KY. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide. I will gladly share whatever I have. Kindest regards, Leslie
