    3. Wolfe County News - Nov. 7, 1956 ROBERT L. TAYLOR SERVING IN EUROPE Pfc. Robert L. Taylor, son of Mrs. Nora E. Allen, Campton, recently arrived in Germany and is now a member of the 2nd Armored Division. Taylor, a medical aidman in the 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion, entered the Army in January 1951 and completed basic training at Fort Knox. The 23 year old solider attended Wolfe County High School. -- April 14, 1954 Pfc. Carl A. Fallen Serving in Korea 2d Div., Korea - - Pfc. Carl A. Fallen, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fallen, Helechawa, Ky., was recently transferred to the 2d Infantry Division in Korea. Fallen had been serving with the 45th Infantry Division which is being returned to the U.S. He will finish his Korean.. tour of duty with the 2d Division, now training to maintain combat efficiency. Fallen entered the Army in March, 1953, and completed basic training at Camp Breckenridge, Ky. --- March 21, 1956 DRAKE YOUTHS ON DUTY WITH U.S. ARMY UNITS Pvt. Ralph Drake has sailed for France departing this country on January 20. He is the 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Drake of Campton. He took basic training at Ft. Carson, Colorado. Then was sent to Ft. Lee, Virginia. He received diplomas from each phase of his training and was also graduated from Wolfe County High School in May of last year making three diplomas which he received in the same year. -- Pvt. Lester Drake is the 17 years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Drake. He was inducted into the Army in January 1956. He is taking his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missiouri.     2. Bruce Stamper was my uncle. He died in this car accident on his way to pick up my Mom and bring her back to Newport. I have pictures of the car after the accident. It was a miracle that his wife and two daughter survived the accident. His wife Gertrude still lives in Newport. She is not in good health. Crystal Jackson Cincinnati, OH

Wolfe County News - Nov. 7, 1956 GILMORE MAN IS CRUSHED IN HOME ACCIDENT French Ely, 46, youngest son of Carl Ely of Gilmore, was crushed to death while working on a truck in his garage at Pioche, Nevada on October 5. He had crawled under his truck and was removing a spring when the spring slipped against the jack placed under the bed, causing it to fall. The heavy truck bed killed Mr. Ely instantly. Surviving are his widow, Nina, a son and daughter, Carl and Susie, all of Picohe; and his mother, Mrs. W.R. Olinger and a sister, Mrs. Marshall Matley and Robert Ely, a brother, all of Reno, Nevada and his father, Carl Ely of Gilmore, Wolfe County, Ky. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, October 9th by the Elks lodge of Cedar City, Utah and was widely attended. Attending the funeral from a distance were; Donald Woodhall, Katie Kline, a sister to Mrs. Ely, and Mrs. and Mrs. Oren Ely, all of California and their son, James; also Carl Ely, Gilmore, who flew up for the funeral. Wolfe County News - April 15, 1953 OCTOGENARIAN DIES THURSDAY AT SON'S HOME Thomas Netherly died at the home of his son, James Netherly of Pine Ridge, on Thursday, April 9th; at 11 a.m at the age of almost 85. He is survived by his son, James and two daughters; Mrs. Candar Scherrie of Middletown, Ohio, and Mrs. Anna Preeman of North Kenova, Ohio; two brothers; Nelson of Trenton, O., and Newt of Cleveland, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F.E. Mosley on Saturday at the Pine Ridge Methodist Church at 1 o'clock; Hearne Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Burial followed in the Evans Cemetery at Campton. Mr. Netherly had been a member of the Methodist church for many years. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Carole

Mortuary, Lexington, by Rev. Henry Buchanan. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery. Mrs. Cable died April 26, after a long illness. A native of Wolfe County, she had been a resident of Fayette county since 1920. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Chruch, Zachariah. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lee Congleton and Mrs. Cora McIntosh, Lexington; Mrs. Robert W. Boots and Mrs. Lee Botkin, Avon; three sons, Millard Cable, Nicholasville, Crit Cable, Campton; and Clayton Cable, Middletown, Ohio, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Wolfe County News - Feb. 2, 1955 Mr. and Mrs. Mort Nickell of Milan, Ind., rural, enjoyed celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary on Dec. 29th with a delicious dinner and festivities at the Dunbar and Bultman Dairy Bar in Osgood, Ind. The party included the celebrated couple, their sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Davis and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Heil. Mr. and Mrs. Nickell were married in Wolfe County, Kentucky on December 29, 1904, by early lamp light in the home of the bride's parents. The bride was Miss Cora Wilson. The minister performing the ceremony was Rev. F.P. Wilson of Helechawa, who is now retired from the ministry at the age of 92. Mr. and Mrs. Nickell went to Indiana in November, 1919 and lived on their farm near St. Plus. Later they purchased their present home near Milan and have lived there for 25 years. They are members of the Milan Baptist Church. Mr. Nickell is 72 and Mrs. Nickell is 68. Their son, Arthur Nickell lives at Bethel, Ohio. They have one granddaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Adams and two great grand daughters, Cynthia and Barbara Jean Adams, who live in Chilo, Ohio. Their many friends and neighbors wish them many more years of happiness together. Carole

    3. Wolfe County News - Jan. 26, 1955 HEART ATTACK PROVES FATAL TO CHARLES CECIL Charles Hogg Cecil, 56, died suddenly - Wednesday, Jan. 19 at his home in Sterling, Ill, of a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted at the home of 1111 West Third Street, Sterling, Ill, on Friday afternoon at 3:30 with Rev. Vernon S. Jones, pastor of the St. Luke's Episopal Chruch, Dixon, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. H.J. Randall of Morrison. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. He was born on Dec. 19, 1896, at Stillwater, Ky, a son of the late C.S. Cecil and Mrs. Lula Rose Cecil of Hazel Green. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Stager of Sterling, Ill. A veteran of World War I, he was in the steel industry for 27 years, residing for a time in Chicago, later in Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Grace Espicopal Church and the Newcomen Society of North America. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary S. Cecil; and two sons, Robert; 13; and Charles Hogg, Jr., 12 of Sterling; and a brother, Roy M. Cecil, and his mother, Mrs. Lula Rose Cecil, both of Hazel Green.
