    2. Carole Bays
    3. Wolfe County News - April 6, 1955 ROBERT JOSEPH McLIN Robert Joseph McLin, the son of Captain Blair McLin and Mary Bales was born at Rose Hill, Virginia on January 13, 1867. He was of Scotch Irish extraction, the McLins came over from North Ireland in colonial times. His father served in the House of Delegates and in the General Assembly of Virginia, and was superintendent of the Presbyterian Sunday school in Rose Hill, Va., for many years. His maternal ancestors settled in Lee County, VA., they, too were Presbyterians. They gave the site for their church at Rose Hill. In 1832 they built the colonial brick home where Robert Joseph McLin was born. Here he grew up and studied at Cumberland College at Rose Hill. Here also he followed the vocation of his father and became a merchant. On December 22, 1892, he married Lillie Day, the daughter of the late Jesse Taylor Day, one of the founders of Hazel Green Academy, and his wife, Rowena Belle Trimble. After living in Winchester, Ky., for a few years, they moved to Hazel Green, Ky., where R.J. McLin became the business associate of J.T. Day helping to manage several East Kentucky stores under the name of Day and McLin. He was a man of clean moral habits and was an elder in the Hazel Green Presbyterian Church. He became president of a mining company in Breathitt county, and in later years, he served Wolfe County as Master Commissioner. To Robert Joseph McLin and Lillie Day McLin, who preceded him in death in 1951, were born nine children; Mary Roe Howard (deceased): Monnie Kash, Tampa, FLa.: Mildred McLin, who has given years of untiring service and devotion to her parents. Daisy Huber, former Missionary to the Phillipines, Robert B. McLin, Hazel Green; Christine Howard, a teacher in the Hazel Green public school; Lillian Hufford, Rossville, Ind; Kathleen Tutt, librarian of H.G.A.: and Irene Keller of Waban, Mass. Throughout the years of his life R.J. McLin took great interest in his home and his family. As the infirmities of age crept upon him, he continued to read much and derive enjoyment from flowers and all things beautiful. At 5:10 p.m. on March 28, 1955, R.J. McLin passed away at the age of 88 years leaving besides his eight surviving children, and two sisters, Miss Mary Florence McLin and Miss Hatty McLin of Rose Hill, Virginia. Bravely did he bear his three years of semi-invalidism and often did he turn to the Bible for strength and guidance. An impressive funeral service was conducted for Mr. McLin in the Hazel Green Academy chapel on Thursday morning, March 31 at ten o'clock by Rev. Gabriel Banks of Morehead. He was assisted by Rrv. Allen Huber of Jackson, Ohio and Mr. Danny Joe Howard, a grandson of R.J. McLin. Special music was rendered by the Hazel Green Christian Church choir. Eight grandsons were pallbearers and a group of Wolfe County friends served as honorary pallbearers. The deceased was laid to rest beside his wife in the Hazel Green Cemetery with Hearne Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. All his children, except Mrs. Monnie Kash were with him when he passed away. Carole
