Wolfe County News - Nov. 13, 1957 FUNERAL RITES CONDUCTED FOR MARY TAULBEE Mrs. Mary Taulbee, 62, Campton died on November 5 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington. Surviving are her husband, Shelton Taulbee; nine children, Mrs. Sarah Ann Drake, John Combs, Kellaway Combs, Albert Combs and Mae Whisman, all of Campton; Garrett Combs, Mrs. Janie Hollon, Elzia Taulbee and Ernest Combs, all of Middletown, O; 30 grandchildren and one great grandchild; a brother, Johnnie Gilbert, Campton, and a sister, Mrs. Elzia Helton, Whitesburg. The body was removed from the Hearne Funeral Home to the residence of John Combs at Sandy Ridge, on Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted there Thursday with Rev. SHEPHERD Mrs. Martha Shepherd, age 95, died on July 22, in Middletown, Ohio where she had been making her home the past five years since her husband's death. They were formerly of Wolfe County. She was a member of Campton Methodist Church and had been since early youth. She is survived by two sons, Clarence and Douglas Shepherd both of Middletown, Ohio and 8 grand children and seven great grandchildren. She died in the hospital in Middletown, and the body was returned here Thursday, July 25. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of the Hearne Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 25th with Rev. Walter Strong, pastor of the First Church of God, Campton, officiating. Wolfe County News - Nov. 7, 1957 DEATH CLAIMS MRS. STAMPER AT AGE OF 53 Mrs. Leslie Stamper, age 53 died Sunday night, Nov. 3 after being confined to her bed 13 months. She has not been well since receiving third degree burns in the fire which destroyed their home two years ago and would have perished in the flames had she not been rescued by her daughter, Miss India Stamper. She was a member of the Baptist Church at Trent. She is survived by three sons, besides her daughter, Russell Stamper, Bethlehem, Pa., and Sewell and Osa Stamper, both of Wolfe County and several grandchildren. Wolfe County News - July 31, 1957 WOLFE COUNTY HAS 3 WOMEN WHOSE AGES AVERAGE 95 PLUS Wolfe County boasts three women whose combined ages add up to 286 years, or an average of 95 1/3 years each. The oldest is Mrs. Sarah Taulbee. She was born in 1859 and will celebrate her 98th birthday in November. She is reputed to be the oldest person in Wolfe County. She is the widow of Isaac Taulbee. Mrs. Mary Sally, widow of I.B. Sally, will be 96 on Aug. 23. She is the mother of one son, Raleigh, now dead. She has one granddaughter, Mrs. Bill Brewer, and four great-grandchildren, Billy Jean, 17; Joyce Ann, 14; Danny Raleigh, 7 and Brenda Kay Brewer, 5. Mrs. Sally has been a member of the Church of Christ at Malaga for 63 years. Mrs. Rasualine Creech Center, widow of Dr. G.M. Center, of Campton, will be 92 on Aug. 25. After 92 years, Mrs. Center still loves to wash dishes, but failing vision hinders her work. She is the mother of six living children, Mrs. J.B. Tutt, of Lexington; D.H. Center, Berea, Mrs. Viola Shackelford, Middletown, Ohio, Mrs. B. W. Rayner, Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Bertha Lovelace, Campton, and Mrs. Carma Buchholzer, Dayton. She has 29 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Mrs. Center was married when she was 16 and has been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for 72 years. Dr. Center practiced medicine in Wolfe County for 58 years. He was also a Missionary Baptist minister. Wolfe County News - Jan. 15, 1958 TONY TRIMBLE IS VICTIM OF AUTO ACCIDENT Tony Trimble, 37; was killed instantly in an automobile accident at Xenia, Ohio Friday night when his car left the highway and hit a telephone pole. He was a carpenter. His companion is still in a serious condition in the hospital. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Eunice Oldfield, and a brother, James Trimble; both of Franklin, Ohio and two nephews and a niece. Mrs. Rosa Pieratt and sister Clara in company with several friends came up from Ezel on the first of the week. J. Mort Pieratt, the solid mainspring of Ezel, paid our town a visit last Sunday, returning home on Monday. The post office at Daysborough in this county, has been re-established by the Postoffice Department and S. C. Alexander appointed postmaster. Mrs. Anna Wills of Powell County, and mother of Pete Wills of the Cox Mill neighborhood, is not expected to live. She has been suffering with an abscess in her stomach for about 4 months. At Beattyville laborers are receiving 15 cents an hour, or from $1.50 to $1.80 per day; common carpenters command 20 cents an hour, or from $2 to $2.40 per day, and best carpenters get 25 cents an hour for 10 or 12 hours a day, as they may elect. Here is a chance for some of our idle men to secure a snug sum of clear cash ere the winter frosts come again, and they should avail themselves of it at once. He had suffered about four months illness. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Baptist. He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Cockerell with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Lillie Perry of Crandon, Wisconsin. Also six sons, Henry Cundiff, Middletown, O.; Dan, Wilmington, O., Brack, Logan and Marion Cundiff, all of Dayton, O., also one sister, Mrs. Lula Johnson, Lexington; 30 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Services were conducted at the Campton Baptist Church on Friday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. James Pinkley Jr., officiating. Arrangements were in charge of Hearne Funeral Home. Burial was in the Miller Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Frank Rose, D.C. Tolson, Holmes Bowman, James Allen, Sr., James Allen, Jr., and Victor Allen.
