Vol. has the historic reputation of having taken part in and doing valient service in the following battles in the Civil War. Laurel Hill, Snow Hill, Dobbins Ferry, Stone River or Murfeesboro, Chicamauga, Buzzard Roost, Whites Ferry, Raccoon Valley and Lookout Mountain and about 200 veterans who reinlisted were transferred to the 4th KY mounted troops and operated in SHERMAN's right wing on his famous MARCH TO THE SEA. Their starting point was Waterloo, Ala. They met frequently with the enemy under Gen. WHEELER, Gen. FOREST, JACKSON, ADAMS and thousands of Georgia cadets, who would take shelter in swamps where the cavalry could not pursue them. On this march they swam the following rivers; Yazoo, Black, Pearl Tuskaloo, Alabama, Coosa, Talapoosa, Chattahochee, Cipsy Flint and Tombgsbee. Fifty years ago this September, the 8th Reg. Ky. BANKS Mrs. Cora Ellen Banks, age 70 wife of Monroe Banks, Campton, died at her home Monday morning, March 4th at 7:00 with a heart attack. She was a member of the Church of God, Campton. She is survived by her husband and seven daughters, Mrs. Ellen Peck, Campton; Mrs. Lola Hammond, Sinking Harbor?, Ohio; Mrs. Ev? Evaline Puckett?, Malaga; Mrs. Edna Mae Karton? Kalamazoo, Mich; Mrs. Marie Riggs, Richmond, Ind., Mrs. Bonnie Spencer, Fillmore and Mrs. Ora Klein, address not known here. Also two sons, Dorsey, Campton and Hager, Newark, Ohio; one brother, O.D. Tester, Michigan; and one sister: Mrs. Dora Banks of Middletown, Ohio. Funeral services were held at the First Church of God, Campton, Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. LINKOUS Mrs. Cassie Linkous, 77, died at her home, Stillwater, Saturday night, March 2 at 10 p.m. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Stillwater and a daughter of the late John and Catherine Centers. She is survived by her husband, James Linkous; and five daughters, Mrs. Lester Collier, Pine Ridge; Mrs. Edward Carberry and Mrs. Ray Collier, both of Franklin, Ohio; Mrs. Ella O'Hair and Miss Dora Linkous, Stillwater; four sons, Rex, Floyd, Walter and William, all of Middletown, Ohio; four brothers, Nicke Center, Dayton, Ohio; Omer and John Center, Cleveland, Ohio, and Orville Center, Landsaw; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rose, Hazel Green, and Mrs. Edgar Hollon, South Lyons, Mich. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the B.F. Porter and Son Funeral Home. Burial was in Evans Cemetery, Campton. Rev. Meredith Thompson and Rev. Wolfe County News - March 6, 1957 LENGTHY ILLNESS CLAIMS LIFE OF FRANK WILSON Rev. Frank Preston Wilson, age 93, died at his home of Helechawa on March 1 at 6:45 a.m. after a lenghty illness. He was a member of the Church of God at Helechawa and had been serving the ministry for seventy years. He was also a retired merchant. Survivors include his son, G.B. Wilson, Covington; and three daughters, Mr. O.L. Miller, of Winchester; Miss Gladys Wilson, with whom he made his home; and Mrs. Edward Keeton, West Liberty; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Hazel Green Methodist Church, Sunday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. J.W. Lykins of Winchester officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Green Cemetery. Wolfe County News - Nov. 13, 1957 WOLFE NATIVE DIES IN OHIO AT AGE OF 80 Mrs. Maggie Linkous, age 80, died Sunday morning Oct. 6 at her residence in Lebanon, Ohio. She was a native of Wolfe County and besides a son, has many relatives still living in Wolfe County. She is survived by six sons, Carl, Ray, Cecil, all of Lebanon, O.; O.B. Daytona Beach, Fla.; Troy, of Maytown, Ky., and Charles of Houston, Texas; and five daughters, Mabel Linkous and Gladys Loer, both of Lebanon; Mrs. Grace Russell, Russellville; Mrs. Beth Stamper, Bowling Green; and Mrs. Edna Spink, Miamisburg, O.: 27 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
