Vol. has the historic reputation of having taken part in and doing valient service in the following battles in the Civil War. Laurel Hill, Snow Hill, Dobbins Ferry, Stone River or Murfeesboro, Chicamauga, Buzzard Roost, Whites Ferry, Raccoon Valley and Lookout Mountain and about 200 veterans who reinlisted were transferred to the 4th KY mounted troops and operated in SHERMAN's right wing on his famous MARCH TO THE SEA. Their starting point was Waterloo, Ala. They met frequently with the enemy under Gen. WHEELER, Gen. FOREST, JACKSON, ADAMS and thousands of Georgia cadets, who would take shelter in swamps where the cavalry could not pursue them. On this march they swam the following rivers; Yazoo, Black, Pearl Tuskaloo, Alabama, Coosa, Talapoosa, Chattahochee, Cipsy Flint and Tombgsbee. Fifty years ago this September, the 8th Reg. Ky. He was a retired farmer who had lived in Wolfe County all his life. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dixie Roberts, Campton, two daughters; Mrs. Gertrude Crowe, South Lyon, Mich., Miss Virginia Roberts, Cincinnati, Ohio. Three sons; Sherman Roberts, Cincinnati, Ohio; Chester Roberts, Ludlow, Ky and Millard Roberts, Preston Springs, Ky; 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Howard officiating on Tuesday, August 6, for Mrs. Rosa James Nickell, who passed away on August 4, at the age of 80 years and 3 days. The daughter of the late Ben Frank James and Polly Ann Gilmore, she was born at Hazel Green, Ky on August 1, 1877 and lived her entire life in that community. She was a member of the Hazel Green Christian Church and the widow of the late Dr. A.C. Nickell. Survivors include one son, Ben James of Hazel Green, eight grandchildren, A.C. James, Archie James, Mrs. Rose Firks and Sarah James of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Jesse James of Dayton, Ohio, Everett and Delbert James of Chicago, Illinois; and Jewell Ann James, Hazel Green; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Wolfe County News - Nov. 1957 SHORT ILLNESS CLAIMS LIFE OF HOWARD KIDD Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning, October 26 at the home of Dewey Kidd, Lacy Creek, for his brother, Howard Thomas Kidd, age 65, who died in Middletown, Ohio, Wednesday, October 23, after a short illness. Rev. John Dalton officiated at the funeral services which began at 10:00. The deceased was a member of the Church of God in Middletown, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vergie Kidd, Middletown; seven sons, Elmer Kidd, Ernest Kidd, Earl Kidd, Jimmy Kidd, Herbert Kidd, and Douglas Kidd, all of Middletown; and Donald Kidd, with the U.S. Armed Forces in Puerto Rico; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Blanknehip, Mrs. Bessie Weaver, Mrs. Peggy Nunaker, all of Middletown, and Mrs. Beulah Franklin, Clearfield, Utah, three brothers, Dewey Kidd, Campton; Clay Kidd, Vortex, and John Kidd, of Hazel Green; also four sisters, Mrs. Susie Lyle, Middletown, Mrs. Betty Elkins, Hazel Green, Mrs. Hurley Elkins, Hazel Green and Mrs. Carrie Childers, Campton. LINKOUS Mrs. Cassie Linkous, 77, died at her home, Stillwater, Saturday night, March 2 at 10 p.m. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Stillwater and a daughter of the late John and Catherine Centers. She is survived by her husband, James Linkous; and five daughters, Mrs. Lester Collier, Pine Ridge; Mrs. Edward Carberry and Mrs. Ray Collier, both of Franklin, Ohio; Mrs. Ella O'Hair and Miss Dora Linkous, Stillwater; four sons, Rex, Floyd, Walter and William, all of Middletown, Ohio; four brothers, Nicke Center, Dayton, Ohio; Omer and John Center, Cleveland, Ohio, and Orville Center, Landsaw; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rose, Hazel Green, and Mrs. Edgar Hollon, South Lyons, Mich.     3. Wolfe County News - March 6, 1957 LENGTHY ILLNESS CLAIMS LIFE OF FRANK WILSON Rev. Frank Preston Wilson, age 93, died at his home of Helechawa on March 1 at 6:45 a.m. after a lenghty illness. He was a member of the Church of God at Helechawa and had been serving the ministry for seventy years. He was also a retired merchant. Survivors include his son, G.B. Wilson, Covington; and three daughters, Mr. O.L. Miller, of Winchester; Miss Gladys Wilson, with whom he made his home; and Mrs. Edward Keeton, West Liberty; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Hazel Green Methodist Church, Sunday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. J.W. Lykins of Winchester officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Green Cemetery.
