TAYLOR, 66 Mrs. Nanny Dell Taylor, age 66, widow of the late Clint Taylor, died Sunday, December 30 at 6:30 p.m. at her home in Campton. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Malaga. She is survived by six daughters; Mrs. Bethel Smith, Hazard; Mrs. Margie Dunn, West Carrollton, O.: Miss Dorothy Taylor, Cincinnati, Misses Fannie, Thelma and Elsie Taylor, all of Campton; two sons: Eugene Taylor of Middletown and Roland Taylor, Dayton; two brothers, Tom Taylor, Simpson, Ova Taylor, Indianapolis, Ind; and four sisters; Mrs. Emmie Taylor, Versailles, Ind.: Mrs. LIllie Young, and Mrs. Sara Carpenter, both of Simpson, and Mrs. Ethel Taulbee, Cincinnati, Ohio. Also five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral was held at the Church of Christ, Malaga, Tuesday, January 1 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Willie Taylor and Rev. Johnny Dalton officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Cemetery at Malaga. The arrangements were all made by B.F. Porter and Son Funeral Home in Campton. Carole
Wolfe County News - June 26, 1957 WOLFE NATIVE DIES IN OHIO AT AGE OF 45 Estill C. Mayabb, born July 24, 1911 at Mize, Ky., died June 6 at the age of 45. He was the son of E.R. Mayabb of Campton and the late Mary Bell Cecil Mayabb. He was married to Pennie Louise Davis of Dudouric, GA., on July 6, 1939. To this union was born two children, a son, Darrell Davis Mayabb, and a daughter, Donna Fay Mayabb. The deceased was a member of the Bethel Temple Assembly of God. He had made his home in Dayton, Ohio for 30 years. Besides his wife and two children, he is survived by his father, E.R. Mayabb, Campton. (His mother preceded him in death in 1948) Three brothers, Orville Mayabb, Middletown, Ohio; Omer Mayabb, Dayton, Ohio; and Elzie Mayabb, Campton. Three sisters, Mrs. Russell Lowe, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Cecil Hurt, Mize, Ky.; and Mrs. Herbert Flinchum, Campton. He was also preceded in death by a brother, September 27, 1955. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dayton on June 10. Carole
Wolfe County News - June 5, 1957 H.L. WHISMAN, son of John and Mary Ann Whisman, was born August 26, 1871 in Wolfe County where he resided until 1918 when he moved his family to Indiana. Mr. Whisman was married to Alice Chambers and to this union six children were born: John, Frances, and Bob, deceased: Mrs. Anna Russell of Salt Lick; Elisha Whisman, Sunman, and Mrs. Lula Hollon of Milan. His first wife passed away in 1905. On February 24, 1906, Mr. Whisman married Elizabeth Chambers, a first cousin to Alice. This union was blessed with 12 children; Mrs. Alice Brewer of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Gladys Polly of Cincinnati; Mrs. Grace Carter of Versailles; Mrs. Emma Huntington of Friendship; Mrs. Bertie Cambell of Frankfort; Mrs. Eulah Busteed of Milan; Mrs. Ruth Eads of Madison, James Whisman of Cincinnati; Lee Whisman (deceased); Charles Whisman and Frank Whisman of Aurora; and Jeff Whisman of Madison. He also leaves 90? grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. Mr. Whisman led a quiet life of a hard working farmer, and faithfully provided for his large family. He also reared his first wifes brother, John Chambers whose father died when he was an infant. He was a member of the Christian Church at Stillwater, Ky. He showed deep concern during his last illness that all his children meet him in heaven. He suffered a second stroke which paralysed his left side. He lived one week from the time of his stroke. He died at 2:30 on Wednesday afternnon, May 9th. Hiram was a good neighbor. He believed in sharing with others and his home was always open to friends who frequently came to visit with him. He will be greatly missed by friends and his family will feel his absence keenly because of the many memories that will linger of a kind husband and father. Carole

Survivors include four other sons, William King, Walton; Hershell King, Cincinnati; Ray and Raymond King, both of Vancleve; six daughters, Mrs. Eva Chapman, Vancleve; Mrs. Monta Booth and Mrs. Emma Faulkner, both of Fixer; Mrs. Marie King, Morning View; Mrs. Grace Sipple, Middletown, O., and Mrs. Mary Snider, Germantown, O., 53 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at one p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at the Church of Christ near Vancleve by Rev. Fred Littrell, Rev. Charles Lovely and Rev. Brack Morrison. Burial was in the King Cemetery near Vancleve. The body was taken to the home of the son, Erbur King, from B.F. Porter and Son Funeral Home of Campton, which was in charge or arrangements. Carole
Wolfe County News - July 24, 1957 HEART ATTACK PROVES FATAL TO VERLON SMITH Verlon Smith, 39, Pine Ridge, died at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Hospital in Winchester where he was admitted Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack while working on a construction project at the Gulf Interstate Gas Transmission Co., plant here. He formerly lived in the South Forks section of Powell County, served from 1950 to 1954 as magistrate of the 4th District, he taught school here a number of years and was formerly employed in the Powell and Lee County oil fields. He was a member of the Campton First Church of God and a former member of the Stanton Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nannie Smith; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Smith, Bowen; three daughters, Misses Yvonne, Lenita and Millie Smith, all of Pine Ridge; a son, Alfred Smith, Pine Ridge; three brothers, William Smith, Florence, J.C. Smith and Hubert Smith, both of Bowen; five sisters, Mrs. Inez Combs, Organia, Ohio; Mrs. Osa Means, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Barbara Berry and Mrs. Alma Anderson of Fairborn, Mich., and Mrs. Ella Jean Chapman, Pointiac, Mich. Wolfe County News - Jan. 23, 1957 COUNTY NATIVE DIES AT AGE 74 IN CALIFORNIA Charles Oscar Smith, 74, died at Stockton, California, January 13, after a long illness. Mr. Smith was formerly of Wolfe County and was a son of the late S.D. and Miranda Smith. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Smith, a son, Ralph Smith: two brothers, Wallace B. Smith and Grover C. Smith; and three grandsons, all of Stockton, and one sister, Mrs. George M. Payne, Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 15th in Stockton and burial was also there. Mr. Smith was a brother to the late W.C. Smith, who was for many years Judge of Wolfe County and also a brother to the late Mrs. Jane Allison. He leaves many relatives in Wolfe County, among them the post master at Campton, Jack Smith who is a nephew. Mrs. Smith left Campton when he was a young boy. He was retired from the police force in Stockton at the time of his death. Carole

He is survived by one son, Aleck Sterling Hollon, Ohio; five daughters, in addition to Mrs. Cundiff other daughters are: Mrs. Barbara Rose, Eldorado, Ohio, Mrs. Stella Rhodes, Lebanon, Ohio; Mrs. Elsie Sewell, Georgetown, KY. and Mrs. Clema Profitt, Dayton, Ohio. Also three brothers, Jack Hollon, of Campton; Bob Hollon, Landaw; and Henry Hollon, Baptist. Two sisters; Mrs. Rosemary Campbell and Mrs. Frances Hounshul, both of Baptist, sixteen grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, June 27 at 10 :00 a.m. at the Rosedale Church with Rev. Johnny Dalton and Rev. Lump Osborne officiating. Wolfe County News - April 17, 1957 WOLFE NATIVE DIES IN IDAHO AT AGE OF 82 Mrs. Sarah Allen, who was born in Wolfe County at Torrent, March 7, 1875, died at her home in Ahsahka, Idaho on Monday, April 1, at the age of 82. She had been a resident of Clearwater Valley and the prairie for 56 years. A farm resident of the Wells Branch and Teaken areas, she remembered fording the Clearwater near her present home on horseback long before there was a ferry built across the river. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bush of Torrent, KY. She had married Eliza Chambers, after his death in 1938 she later married George H. Allen, who survives her. She is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Scott Smith, of Ahsahka, Idaho; and four nephews, Paul and Clarence Bush, Dayton, Ohio; Clay Bush, Zachariah; and John Bush, Torrent. Funeral services were directed by Gilbert Chapel on April 5th at 10:00 a.m. and burial was in the Normal Hill Cemetery at Lewiston, Idaho. Rev. O.L. Baker of Orfino Church of God and Douglas Emery of the Ahsahka Community Church officated. Carole
Wolfe County News - June 12, 1957 LENGTHY ILLNESS CLAIMS LIFE OF IRA B. DUNN Ira B. Dunn, 80, retired farmer and railroader, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 in Eastern State Hospital. He helped to build the old O&K Junction railroad across Breathitt County and was a section foreman on this road for 22 years. He is survived by four sons, Adam Dunn, Lebanon, Ohio; Jesse Dunn, Harrison, Ind.; Bill Dunn, Middletown, Ohio and Ira Dunn, Jr., Hamilton, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Nancy Lou Trent, Whitesburg, Mrs. Sarah Banks, Simpson, and Mrs. Mary Benson, Stratford, Conn.; 32 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. The body was taken to the B.F. Porter and Son Funeral Home where it was kept until Thursday afternoon then it was returned to the residence, at Simpson. Funeral services were conducted at the Boone Fork Church of Christ, Breathitt County at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, with Rev. Ira Dunn, nephew of the deceased and Rev. Oney Banks officiating. Andrew Porter Steele was b. 1 Apr 1872 in Wolfe Co to Wm. Wylie and Sarah Lacy Steele. He m. Mabel McCormick. "Steele" book states "killed in hunting accident in MS". Might have had a son named Montford. Does anyone have any information at all on Andrew Porter, Mabel or Montford Steele? Will share other Steele information. Monty Reed
