    3. Wolfe County News - Oct. 31, 1962 HAZEL GREEN NATIVE PASSES Ollie J. Blankenship, 65 of 5333 Collidge Avenue, Sciotoville, O., died Sunday, Oct. 21, at 1:56 p.m at his residence. He had been ill several years. Born Oct. 5, 1897 at Hazel Green he was a son of the late Hiram and Jane Long Blankenship. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dora Reed Blankenship; three daughters, Mrs. Arnold Boggs and Mrs. Helen Lee Boysel, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Donna Jane Gilbert, Columbus, Ohio; a son Roy Blankenship, of Pomeroy, Ohio; three brothers, Noah of Piketon, Ohio; Bruce of Hazel Green; and Elva of Hamilton, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. John Coldiron and Mrs. Luther Oldfield both of Hazel Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, and a sister. Mr. Blankenship was a member of the Sciotoville Freewill Baptist Church, and the Masonic Lodge at Hazel Green. Funeral services were conducted at the church with Rev. Clarence Conway officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park under the direction of Gill Funeral Home. Masonic services were held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Carole

    3. Wolfe County News - Feb. 28, 1962 John Howard Miller, son of the late Rev. Joseph B. and Elizabeth Lindon Miller, was born in Wolfe County, Nov. 10, 1863, and passed from this life February 19, 1962, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 9 days. He spent most of his life on a farm at Stillwater in Wolfe County and was an outstanding citizen in the community. He attended school at Hazel Green Academy, Hazel Green. He had been active in political and educational activities. He was united in marriage to Maude Moore, March 23, 1935. She survivives. He is also survived by one son, James H. Miller of Brighton, Mich; one brother, Joseph B. Miller of Campton; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Combs, Mrs. Maude Collums, Miss Ella Miller, all of Campton; Mrs. Minnie Swope, Slade, Mrs. Fern Carroll, McLeansboro, Ill; four grandchildren and a host of friends and relataives. He was united with the Pine Hill Primitive Baptist Church by baptism in 1952 and was a faithful member and supporter of the church. He was well liked by all. I couldn't really read the date and it differed from the headlines, so I checked the death index and it should have been June 16. Dunn, 84, a retired Campton physician, died at 2:40 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington after a long illness. Dr. Dunn had practiced medicine for 50 years. He was a graduate of Hazel Green Academy and the University of Louisville Medical School. He was a member of the Church of God. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Callie Dunn; four daughters, Mrs. Ed Bach and Mrs. Graydon Taulbee, Campton; Mrs. Earl Kirk, Lexington, and Mrs. Ruby Dunn Wilson, Newcastle, Ind.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Hi, John, Thanks for trying to help, but that Bruce Rose, son of Stephen Rose that you mentioned is a bro. to my great-grandfather, David Bowen Rose who married Mary Catherine Whisman--I mean David is a brother to Stephen. Bruce, Stephen's son, married (!) Katherine Chambers, and (2) Grace Bryant and the children's names are not the same either. But you are right in that they are in the same time frame. The Bruce Rose whom I have in my records was born in 1880 and was a 1st cousin to my grandfather, James Floyd Rose. This Bruce must be some kind of cousin too. Thanks, Bess

    3. Wolfe County News - March 14, 1962 The body of Herbert Banks, 9, who had been missing from his home at Lee City for nine days was found Wednesday in Red River near Lee City. The body of the youngster was located by Taylor Sallee. Sallee, who had been a member of an earlier search party, said he just happened to see the Banks boy's feet caught on a bush where floodwaters had receded along the Red River. An estimated 50 pounds of sand covered the upper half of his body. The Banks boy attended Lee City School and was a son of Ernest C. Banks and Mrs. Alma Hall Banks. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Reva Wilson, Elston and Mrs. Effie Rose, Middletown and seven brothers, Kelly Banks, Newport; Alton Banks, Millersburg; Wardell Banks, Helechawa and Henry, Forest, Audie and Roscoe Banks, Lee City.
