    3. Wolfe County News - Jan. 2, 1962 MOLLIE ANN CENTER PASSES AT AGE 94 Mrs. Mollie Ann (Aunt Polly) Center, 95, died at 1:30 a.m. Dec. 30 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. E.C. Clark, at Hazel Green after a short illness. She was a native of Wolfe County and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Trent. Surviving include two other daughters, Mrs. Carrie Deering, Middletown, Ohio, and Mrs. W.M. Trent Hazel Green; a half-brother, Jasper Creech, Trent, a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Gross, Sante Fe, Calif.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Dora Brewer and Mrs. Elzie Trimble, Dayton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and four gret great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trent Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Willie Taylor. Burial was in the family cemetery with B.F. HALSEY, 71 DIED DECEMBER 23 Mrs. Lenis Sweeney Halsey, 71, wife of Morton Halsey, died Saturday morning, Dec. 23, at her home at Sewell, Breathitt County, after an illness of eight years. Mrs. Halsey was born in Wolfe County, March 28, 1890, daughter of Charlie and Mary J. Lawson Sweeney. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Elzie and Herschel Halsey, Sewell; three daughters, Mrs. Lucy Gabbard, Hazard; Mrs. Earl Derrickson, Lebanon, and Mrs. Sarah Coil, Walkertown, Ind.; three brothers, Joe Sweeney, Simpson, Asa Sweeney, Maytown, and Curt Sweeney, Greensburg, Ind.; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25, at the Frozen creek Community Church by the Rev. Charles Lovely and Rev. Green Ratliff.     3. From the Hazel Green Herald Aug. 9, 1894 Frank Stamper, of Campton, jailor of this county, is quite ill, nd has been sick for about a week past. Mrs. W. T. Caskey is quite sick, and her niece, Miss Slimp, who has been quite ill, is now convalescing. Miss Mattie Quicksall of this place, has been added to the faculty of Harris Institute of Mt. Sterling. She will teach stenography and type writing. Misses Fanny and America Hensley, two most refined daughters of W. M. Hensley says: We would rather read THE HERALD than all the other papers combined". Sheriff Drake, through his deputy, C. C. Hanks, this week advertises sixty-five pieces of real estate in the county for sale for taxes. It is all good property and every piece of it should be sold. Be on hand to buy if you want a bargain. Perry Lacy, one of the old landmarks of this county, died at his home in Campton on Friday night last, aged about 73 years. Mr. Lacy was born and raised on Lacy creek, near here and was postmaster at this place during the war. He was a brother of A. P. Lacy , esq., and James Lacy of this place. His remains were brought to Lacy Creek where the burial took place on Sunday. He was stricken with a pain in one of his legs about a week before and that member swelled until he died. Daysboro Dottings. Married on Sunday 5th, Squire Nickel to Miss Lova Dykes. The boys on Red River are "gathering in the sheaves". Married, on the 39th, ult., Mr. James Wilson to Lula Rose, daughter of Allison Rose of Lee City. Jimmie is a splendid young man and worthy of the fairest and best of Roses. She was a native of Wolfe County and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and of Eve Chaper No. 272, Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors are two sons, Orville Roberts, Vine Grove, and James B. Roberts, Middletown, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. Anna McCloud, with whom she lived in Middletown; Mrs. Mabel Edwards, Middletown; Mrs. Ruth Campbell, Springboro, Ohio and Mrs. Bertie Cundiff, Hammond, Ind.; two stepsons, Elmer Roberts, Campton, and C.E. KASH DIED JULY 2ND Mrs. Bertha Sample Kash, died at 11 p.m. Monday, July 2 at Our Lady of the Angels Nursing Home, 1027 Cherokee Road, Louisville, where she had lived several years. She was 80. She was a member of the Fourth Avenue Methodist Church, Louisville. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles H. Burton, Louisville and Mrs. D.C. Edmonds, Arlington, VA., and two grandsons; also two brothers, D.S. Sample, Kingsport, Tenn, and S.G. Sample, Edna, Texas and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Quixall, Leland, Fla. She was a native of Wolfe County and a former resident of Hazel Green, where her husband, Sam Kash, who preceded her in death, operated a dry goods store for many years. Mrs. Kash was a graduate of Hazel Green Academy and until recent years always attended the annual homecoming. The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington. Burial was in the cemetery in Lexington beside her husband. Mrs. Kash had lived with her elder daughter, Mrs. C.H. Buton for the past fifteen years. She was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Rachel Rose Samples of Wolfe County and Lexington and a native of Hazel Green. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church, Lexington, while she lived there and a charter member of the Kentucky Mountain Club. Her grandsons are Jack K. Burton, Delaware, Ohio, and Sam Kash, Louisville. Funeral was at Keer/Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, with Dr. Floyd Rose officiating, and burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers were C.H. Sample, Dr. V.O. Kash, Robert Coleman Stilz, Joe F. Heinrich, Jr., E.H. McGuire and R.B. Batson. Honorary pallbearers were W.E. Bach, Sam Perkins, S.H. Nickell, S. Born Oct. 5, 1897 at Hazel Green he was a son of the late Hiram and Jane Long Blankenship. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dora Reed Blankenship; three daughters, Mrs. Arnold Boggs and Mrs. Helen Lee Boysel, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Donna Jane Gilbert, Columbus, Ohio; a son Roy Blankenship, of Pomeroy, Ohio; three brothers, Noah of Piketon, Ohio; Bruce of Hazel Green; and Elva of Hamilton, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. John Coldiron and Mrs. Luther Oldfield both of Hazel Green.     3. Wolfe County News - Feb. 28, 1962 JOHN P. BUSH DIES OF HEART ATTACK John P. Bush, 76, died of a heart attack about 2 p.m. Thursday at his home near Zachariah. Bush had apparently been burning grass and brush near his home. When a neighbor observed that the fire had burned over a large area, he investigated and found Bush dead on the ground not far from his home. He was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church, Torrent lodge No. 711, Free and Accepted Masons, and Royal Arch Masonic Order. He organized the Leeco Fish and Game Club. A native of Wolfe County, he had lived in the Torrent-Zachariah area his entire life. Survivors are four sons, Warren K. Bush, Indianapolis, Ind., Angus M. Bush, U.S. Army stationed in France, Marvin D. Bush, Ligoner, Ind., and Glenn L. Bush, U.S. Air Force, Denver, Colo., a brother, Edd Bush, Zachariah, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Adams, Leeco, and Mrs. Celia Holden, Dayton, Ohio and three grandchildren. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church and a 68 year member of Greenville Lodge 655 of Caney. Wolfe County News - Sept. 19, 1962 MOTHER, 2 SONS KILLED SATURDAY WHEN HIT BY CAR A Wolfe County mother and two sons were killed Saturday night near Lee City when struck by a car while standing on the highway. Mrs. Vada Flinchum, 52, and her sons, Lowell Flinchum, 25, and Langley 10, were killed as they stood beside a car on Ky 205 two miles south of Lee County. The three lived on Campton Route 1, not far from the scene of the accident. Mrs. Flinchum and Langley were dead on arrival at the Porter and Son Funeral Home where they were taken after the accident. Lowell Flinchum died at Stanton en route to a Lexington hospital. Mrs. Flinchum is survived by a her husband, Seldon Flinchum, three sons, Claude, Norman and Rodney, all at home; four daughters, Brenda Sue Flinchum at home; Mrs. Olive Ballard, Cincinnati; Miss Imogene Flinchum, Lee City, and Mrs. Christine Risner, Lexington; two brothers, Henry King, Taulbee and Ervine King, Bethel and 15 grandchildren. Combined services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lee City Mission Church by the Rev. Sam Knox. Burial was in the family cemetery.
