Thank you so much for your quick response, Norma! You are correct, Rachel Rose was given to her grandmother, Elizabeth Jett, who was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Martha (Jett) and Jesse Spicer after Rachel (Jett) Rose died. She was later given back to her father when he married Phoebe. I'm inclined to agree the date of death of Rachel (Jett) Rose might be in question. Seems like a lot of misinformation is carved on gravestones. It's a shame that "carved in stone" doesn't mean it's accurate! :-) Thanks again! Hi Gail, It's possible the date of the mother's death was off some. I found Rachel in 1880 with an aunt and her grandma, I believe. She's with the Jesse Spicer family, and the mother-in-law is a Jett. Rachel is listed as a niece, age 10 mos. Unless you can find a definite date of death, I think the census is the only proof that the date you have is wrong. I don't think there are any death records for that year in Wolfe Co. I've got a book and they only go to 1878, and then skip to 1903. I couldn't find her father on the census. Hi Norma, Thanks so much for passing along this info! I have a question about the months of birth associated with the children in the 1900 census. Was that found on the census report? I'm a little confused because Phebe was Benjamin's 2nd wife. His first wife was Rachel Jett. She died after complications from childbirth when she had Rachel Rose in 1879. The month of death I have for Rachel (Jett) Rose is March 1879. The month of birth here for Rachel Rose says August 1879. That would make her born after her mother died. I just was wondering which place I needed to look to verify. Thanks so much, Gail (Rose) Berish In a message dated 12/16/2002 2:24:09 PM Eastern Standard Time, njadams@cinci.rr.com writes: > Bess, > The 1900 census shows this family: > #1978/198 Wolfe Co. - Lee City Pct. > Benjamin Rose, 59 KKK - b. Wow, the information contained herein on Ambrose Allison Rose helps clear up LOTS of things on his family! I had his name in my database incorrectly as "Amos B. Rose". I didn't document my sources when I first started genealogy, so I don't know from whom/where I got that info. Certainly the census info sent herein clears up who he REALLY was! Now I can give a little insight for Mary with her question! Ambrose Allison Rose's father, Benjamin Franklin Rose had a brother named Allison Rose. Their parents were James Robert Rose, b. 4/2/1818, d. 4/7/1897 and Henrietta "Haneyetta" or "Mahala" McQuinn, b. 4/23/1818, d. 8/2/1870. The Rose side were descendants of John Rose and Rebekah Bowen via their son, Robert W. Rose and Esther Moore. Henrietta McQuinn's parents are as far back as I go on her side, and I do not have her mother's last name. Her parents were Alexander McQuinn, b. abt. 1784 and Lavisa. Alexander and Lavisa were married abt. 1806. I don't have any record of the surname "Allison" associated with Ambrose Allison Rose, but that doesn't mean there isn't any since we don't know Lavisa's family. Hope this helps a little! Maybe between us all, we'll be able to put this puzzle together! Does anyone have info about earlier generations of Ambrose' Allison Rose's ancestors? I am interested in knowing if his mother or a grandmother had the maiden name of ALLISON. My G2 grandfather was Ambrose ALLISON who was born in NY in 1795 and was living in Erie Co. PA in 1850. After that I have found no record of him. I'm wondering if Ambrose ALLISON or some of his descendants married a ROSE and moved to Wolfe Co., KY between 1850 and 1900? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
