Wolfe County News - Jan. 24, 1969 WOMAN AND SON KILLED IN KY-15 WRECK JAN. 17TH A Wolfe County woman and her 17 years old son were killed about 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, when their car collided with a one-ton truck five miles south of Campton on Ky. 15. Killed were Mrs. Virgie Ellen Taulbee, 57, and Norman Kendell Taulbee, 17, both of Wolfe County. State Police said Mrs. Taulbee was killed instantly. Her son was pronounced dead on arrival a short time later at the Maddox Clinic. Injured in the wreck was John Linkous, 16 of Campton, who was taken to the University Medical Center, Lexington for treatment of a fractured left arm and bruises on the head. He was reported in fair condition at the hospital Friday night. State Police said that the truck, driven by Linkous, hit the car on the right, front side. Mrs. Taulbee was a native of Wolfe County. Her son was a senior at Wolfe County High School. Mrs. Taulbee is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Taulbee, Mary; two daughters, Mrs. Eunice Stone, Mary, and Mrs. Alice Cornett, Dwarf; two sons, James E. Taulbee, Cleveland, Ohio, and Charles Taulbee, Campton; three brothers, Marvin Taulbee, Clay City; Claude Taulbee, New York, and Hubert Taulbee, Massachusetts; four sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Maraclopins, Washington, D.C. Mrs. Ada Ruth Mackey, California and Mrs. Daisey Moore, Mary, and 11 grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Taulbee and her son were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wolfe county Grade School auditorium by Rev. Robert Cundiff.     3. Wolfe County News - Oct. 17, 1969 KOREA MAN, 61, DIES OF BURNS Joe Brewer, 61, of Korea died at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 in an ambulance enroute to a Lexington hospital. Fayette County Coroner Chester Hager said death was due to third degree burns Brewer suffered in an accident near home. Born Sept. 20, 1908. in Breathitt County, he was a son of the late Andrew and Fannie Graham Brewer. He was a farmer. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Liza Hampton Brewer; three sons, Donald and Dean Brewer of the U.S. Air Force and Jesse Brewer of Korea; two daughters, Mrs. Jo Ann Pugh of Clarksville, Ind., and Mrs. Lola Patrick of Korea; six sisters, including Mrs. Ora Lee Nickell of Daysboro; two step-sisters, and nine grandchildren. He was a native of Breathitt County, a retired coal miner, and a member of the Church of God. He was a Wolfe County native and a retired employee of Armco Steel Corp. A native of Campton, Mr. Profitt had resided in Middletown 25 years. He was a native of Wolfe County and was a son of the late Mary Ellen Culbertson and Troy Maloney. He was a retired shipping and receiving clerk for the Lexington Signal Depot. He was a member of Free Methodist Church, served in World War II and Korea with the U.S. Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Juanita Matthews Maloney; three sons, Arthur Gale; Donald George and Carl B.     3. Was wondering if anyone knew who Martha's parents were. I know they fit into our Whisman's somewhere. My great-grandmother, who was a Whisman--married DAvid B. Rose--had a sister named Martha Whisman, but I know this is not the right one because she did not marry a Spencer. She and her family moved to Stillwater OK and she died and was buried there. Wolfe County News - June 1968 WOLFE NATIVE DIES JUNE 9 IN LEXINGTON Services for Asa Curtis Rose, 76 of 134 Londonderry Drive, Lexington, a retired school teacher and farmer, was conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the W.R. Milward Mortuary, Southland, by the Rev. John Oldfield. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County. Bearers were Richard Rose, Barry Rose, Mark Rose, Ronald Rose, Jerry Rose and Scotty Rose, grandson of Mr. Rose. Mr. Rose died at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 9 at Central Baptist Hospital after suffering a heart attack earlier in the day. A native of Stillwater, Wolfe County, he was a son of the late Stephen and Serilda Cecil Rose. He was educated in Wolfe County schools and attended Berea College and Eastern Kentucky University. Mr. Rose taught for 26 years in the schools of Wolfe and Morgan Counties. He was a member of the Church of God and was a former Mason. He was married in 1916 to the late Della Murphy Rose. Survivors include six sons, Stephen O. Rose, Bill Rose, Asie C. Rose, Walden C. Rose and Paul M. Rose, all of Lexington, two daughters, Mrs. John E. Varlie, Morristown, Pa., and Mrs. William H. He was a native of Wolfe County and had been employed at the Dayton Frigidaire Corp for a number of years. He as a member of the Beechwood Church of God in Middletown, Ohio and was a veteran of World War II. A native of Hazel Green, Wolfe County, he was a retired attorney, and former County Attorney of Clark County. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, Winchester, a Mason and past eminent commander of Knights Templar and past high priest of Royal Arch Masons No. 12. He was a graduate of Hazel Green Academy, and the University of Virginia Law School, and had been a member of the Kentucky Bar Association for more than 50 years. He was trial attorney for the Federal Trade Commission for 17 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Smith Kash; four daughters, Mrs. Floyd Day, Mrs. Nancye Reed, Mrs. Helen K. Mr. Cundiff was born Oct. 27, 1906, in Campton, a son of Boyd and Ester Chambers Cundiff, and was married Oct. 9, 1944 to Pina Lawson Taulbee. He was a member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
