Wolfe County News - March 13, 1970 COON HUNTER DIES IN FALL FROM CLIFF Campton, KY - A 28 -year old Wolfe County man was killed late Thursday night, March 5 while on a coon hunt in a rugged section of the county when he fell off a cliff edge and dropped 30 feet head first into a rocky creek bed. Leroy Hollon, Campton Route 1 died a few minutes after he plunged into Bear Pen Creek, fracturing his skull and sustaining internal injuries. His brother and hunting partner, George Henry Hollon, was at his side when he died about 10:30 p.m. Wolfe County Coroner Lewis R. Porter ruled the death was accidental. The coroner said the two brothers were returning to their cars and were walking along the top of the cliff. George Hollon told him he was walking in front of his brother when he looked over his shoulder and saw his brother's lantern falling through the air. Lewis said, George Henry Hollon climbed down to the bottom of the cliff and found his brother lying in the creek. The coroner said the victim apparently had slipped on loose dirt on the cliff's edge. In addition to the skull fracture, Lewis said, Hollon had several broken ribs, which punctured the lungs and caused massive hemorrhaging. He said Hollon would not have survived even if medical attention had been immediately available. Hollon is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosie Lykins Hollon; an infant son, Jeffery; his mother, Mrs. Nannie Patton Hollon, and three brothers and five sisters. Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Rosedale Church. Burial in the family cemetery. Porter and Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Carole
