Wolfe County News - July 13, 1973 RITES HELD FOR ELVIN GIBBS, 88 Elvin Jeptha Gibbs, 88, died June 21 at the Nim Henson Nursing Home at Jackson following an extended illness. He was a life-long resident of Wolfe County and was a retired farmer and member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Gibbs, Mrs. Ame Fallen, and Mrs. Frances Francis, all of Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. Rosa Rudd, Maytown, and Mrs. Ruby Kash of Gillmore; two sons, John Gibbs of Gillmore and Albert Gibbs of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Ida Whitt of Marcella, Ky.; two brothers, McFarlin Gibbs of Gillmore and Rolla Gibbs of Dayton, Ohio and 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted June 23 at the Daysboro Church of Christ by Rev. Willie Taylor. Burial was in the Gibbs Cemetery at Gillmore. Shackelford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Wolfe County News - Dec. 22, 1972 WOLFE NATIVE IS INJURED FATALLY IN OHIO STEEL MILL T.C. Rose, 54, of Camden, Ohio died Sunday, Dec. 3 in a Middletown, Ohio hospital of chest and head injuries suffered earlier that day in an industrial accident at Armco Steel Corp. A company spokesman said, Mr. Rose, a repairman in the hot strip mill, was caught between a moving beam and a stationary beam while attempting to change a cylinder. A native of Wolfe County, Rose had been employed by Armco 21 years, He was a World War II Navy veteran. Survivors are his wife, Lida; two daughters, Mrs. Judy Hanke of Cleveland, Tenn., and Mrs. Linda Black of Monroe, Ohio; his mother Mrs. Ninnie Sebastian of Somerville, Ohio; two brothers, Mark of Germantown, Ohio, and Berl of Hillsboro, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Geraldine Huffman of Middletown, and three grandchildren. Does any one know Golden's mother's maiden name? As she was buried in the Hobbs Cemetery, I wondered if it was Hobbs. I would like to find out who the McQuinn was that Lizzie married after her divorce from Fred Lansaw. I remember Fred and as a child was scared of him, mostly because his house was haunted, and I wasn't very old when he killed himself. Clay City Times - June 29, 1939 Dies from Injuries in Wreck Mrs. Pearl Hollon, 25, of Wolfe county, who was injured in a wreck in Clay City Tuesday of last week when she and her husband, Ova Hollon were struck by a truck driven by Charlie Benningfield, died from her injuries Thursday afternoon, June 22, at the Clark County Hospital. Clay City Times - Feb. 1, 1940 Rev. Stamper dies The Rev. McClellan Stamper, 78, died Wed. Jan. 24, 1940 at his home near Beattyville following a brief illness of pneumonia. Funeral was held Friday. For more than 50 years, Bro. Stamper was a minister in the Christian Church and served two years as evangelist of the Second London District. He had preached at Clay City and Vaughn's Mill churches at different times, where he gained many friends who will be saddened at learning of his death. Surviving are his second wife, and twenty children- twelve sons and eight daughters, one of whom is an infant; 75 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. It was said of him that he acted as a Good Samaritan in taking care of the widows and orphans. Mrs. Grace Stamper Townsend, of Stanton, and Mr. Larkin Stamper, of LaGrange, are cousins. Carole
Clay City Times - May 2, 1940 Mrs. Claude Stamper was called to Baptist, Wolfe county, Saturday owing to the serious illness of her father, I.W. Combs. Mr. Combs passed away Monday. He was buried Tuesday. Ike Combs was well known in Powell County. His first wife was Miss Kitty Morton, of Stanton and his second wife was Laura Morton; both are deceased. His last wife was a Miss Miller, sister to Mrs. Minnie Swope of Slade, Mr. Combs is survived by his wife and several children by his first marriage. Carole
