    3. Wolfe County News - Feb. 9, 1973 WOLFE NATIVE DIES IN MICHIGAN Harold Barker, Colon, Mich., died Friday night, Feb. 2, at his home after an illness of a few months. He was preceded in death by his wife, a little over a year ago. He is survived by five sons and one daughter, Adrian, Gerald, Richard, Bill, and Jack and Patsy; several grandchildren; two brothers, Silas Garland Barker of Dearborn, Mich.; and Rodney Barker of Middletown, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Luna Dell Horton, Middletown, Ohio; and Mrs. Genola Hieronymus, Dearborn, a host of friends and numerous other relatives. Burial was in Colon, Mich., Feb. 5. He was a life-long member of the Baptist church and a son of the late Rev. Johnny Barker and Arzola Rose Barker of Stillwater, where he was reared. Carole

    3. Wolfe County News - Aug. 3, 1973 MRS. BRYANT, 76 DIES JULY 25 Hattie Spencer Bryant, 76, widow of the late Myles P. Bryant of Rogers, died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the N.E.H. Nursing Home in Lexington, after a long illness. She was a native of Wolfe County a member of the Rogers Baptist Church, and a rural mail carrier for eighteen years. She was the daughter of the late G.W. and Rebecca Cable Spencer. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Mable Johnson of Stanton, Ky., Mrs. Opal Lewis of Rogers, Ky., Mrs. Ruby Elgelbach of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Nora Johnson of Danville, Ky., and Mrs. Dorothy Kotoulas of Campton, Ky.; five sons, Robert and James P. Bryant, both of Rogers, Ky., Myles P. Bryant, Jr., of Middletown, Ohio, Wayne Bryant of Morehead, Ky., and Dale Bryant of Jackson, Ky.; one brother Clell Spencer of Rogers, Ky.; seven sisters, Mrs. Nannie Brewer of Rogers, Ky., Mrs. Myrtle Dozer, Mrs. Alberta Kemper, Mrs. Nora Arnold, Mrs. Price Coates, Mrs. Cinda Carmine and Miss Alma Spencer, all of Lexington, Ky.; 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Rogers Baptist Church with Rev. Grover Craft and Rev. Ramah Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Rogers Cemetery at Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Synda Allen Moore, two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Walker and Mrs. Joyce Igoo, Middletown, Ohio, one son, Dexter Moore, Cincinnati, O., with whom Mr. and Mrs. Moore made their home, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Grand Avenue Church of God, Middletown, Ohio, May 11 by the Rev. Clifford Hutchinson. Burial was in Woodside Cemetery. DIES Howard Holbrook, Jr. 62, of Somerset, Ky., and formerly of Wolfe County, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the Somerset Hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Wolfe County. A retired coal miner, and a member of the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Vitatoe Holbrook, Somerset, three sons, Hubert Holbrook, Hyden, Stanley Holbrook of Lexington, and Tim Holbrook, Somerset, four daughters, Mrs. Jackie Amburgy, and Mrs. Gale Childers, both of Olympia, Washington, Mrs. Norma Brown of Ashland, and Mrs. Sharon Hinkle, Blowing Rock, North Carolina; three brothers, Jess Holbrook of Middletown, Ohio, Wilson Holbrook, Miamisburg, Ohio, and Robert Lee Holbrook Bales of Ft.     3. Clay City Times - April 3, 1941 We sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar King in the death of their two children, Elmer, age 4 and Irene, age 5 months. Surviving are the parents and a small sister. Burial was in the family lot at Holly. July 17, 1941 Green Hyden passed away at his home on Glencarin Road of stomach trouble and high blood pressure. He was buried in the Bud Spencer graveyard near his home. His wife and several children survive. Aunt Nannie Cole, 76, died at her home from a heart attack. Burial was in the Congleton cemetery beside her husband, Brack Cole, who passed away several years ago. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Douglas Evans, Mrs. John Alexander and Mrs. George M. Spencer of Campton; one brother, Emory Creech of Michigan, and many friends who will miss her kindness and neighborly acts. Feb. 1942 We were sorry to hear of the death of Aunt Celia Cable, of Fincastle. She was 84 years old and the grandmother of Mrs. D. L. Brewer and Frank Spencer of this place. Note: She died Jan. 11, 1942, nee Shepherd and the wife of Stephen (Whig) Cable. March 5, 1942 We are sorry to hear of the death of Miss Mary Wyatt. She leaves many friends throughout the county. Burial was in the Evans cemetery near Campton. Mrs. Fannie Vancleve, of Spout Spring, is a sister. Ronald Clifford Deaton, Jr., two weeks old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Deaton, was found dead in bed. Burial was in the Tar Ridge Cemetery. Our hearts reach out to these young parents in their bereavement. They have given up both of their children in the past year. Sept. 18, 1941 We were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Golden Roberts, of Campton. Surviving are her husband, Shirley Roberts; parents, Jesse Irven Caudill and Mary Mullens Caudill; six sisters and two brothers. She was buried in the Caudill cemetery at Campton beside her little baby who died a week previous. Carole

He had operated a barber shop in Campton for several years and was well known in Wolfe County. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Campton, Sunday afternoon, May 18, at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Norris. Burial was in the Campton cemetery.     3. Clay City Times - Jan. 8, 1942 Austin Bryant, 38, formerly of this place, was accidentally killed by a car near his home at Fayetteville, N.C. Christmas Day. He, with his parents, moved from here when a small boy. Surviving are his wife, Reba Bryant; mother, Mrs. Lucinda Rogers Bryant Hall, of California; two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Bryant Bates, of California; Mrs. Madge Bryant Richards, of North Carolina; two brothers, Roger Bryant of North Carolina and Winfred Bryant, of California, father Wayne Bryant and stepmother, Mrs. Dorothy Gray Bryant; two half sisters, Misses Sybil and Alene Bryant of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandmother, Mrs. Dudley Bryant; several aunts, uncles and other relatives. The many friends of this family were grieved to hear of his passing. The body was brought here to the home of his aunt, Mrs. Frank Spencer and Mr. Spencer. Rev. Charles West, of Powell County, pastor of the Church of God here, conducted the funeral. Interment was in the Bryant cemetery Sunday, December 28. She was a member of the Holiness Church. Born July 18, 1895 in Wolfe County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Lilly Vest Haddix. Mrs. Robinson is survived by two daughters, Mary Murphy of Mt. Sterling and Dorotha Watkins of Dayton, Ohio; seven sons, Ernest, Leonard, and Stanley Robinson of Insko, Elmer and Hansley Robinson of West Liberty, Estill of Helechawa, and Dallis Robinson of Mt. Posted on Wed, Feb. 05, 2003 Collision kills Wolfe woman HERALD-LEADER STAFF REPORT A car driven by a Booneville area teen-ager veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup Monday, killing a Wolfe County woman, Kentucky State Police said. Teresa Brewer, 43, of Rogers, the driver of the Toyota pickup, died at the scene of the crash on Ky. 715, south of Rogers, about 6:30 p.m. Monday. Jordan Burch, 16, the driver of a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, and a passenger, Neil Young, 15, of Lerose, were taken to Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson. Seat belts were not in use in either vehicle, state police said. Ms. Brewer was the daughter of Shirley Brewer Rose. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Porter & Son Funeral Directors in Campton.     3. Clay City Times - Jan. 15, 1942 G.K. BREWER DIES AT ROGERS G.K. Brewer, of Rogers, Ky., succumbed of heart attack at his home January 3 at the age of 65. Mr. Brewer was born and reared in the State of Kentucky. He was a loyal supporter of democracy and the higher principles of moral living. He cared little for publicity, but spent his entire life in devotion and support of his family and interest of his community and fellowman. He had many friends and was well respected by the people of Wolfe and surrounding counties. He retired one year ago from active service with the Texas Oil Co. Employees of the oil company were pallbearers. Funeral service was held in the community church at Rogers, conducted by the Rev. Ramah Johnson, of Morehead. He is survived by his widow, Minnie Brewer; seven sons, Willard and Finley, of Monroe, Mich.; Dillard, Ted, Jake and Stanley, of Birmingham, Ala., Vernon, of Middletown, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. J.V. Armitage and Mrs. Lee Palmer, of Middletown, Ohio; Mrs. D.L. Adams and Evelyn, at home. Mr. Brewer will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Carole

He was a native of Wolfe County, a retired farmer, and a member of the Church of Christ. He was a son of the late Doc and Belle Carroll Cable. Other survivors besides his wife include two sons, Merl Cable, Beloit, Wisc., and Lee Cable, Hillpoint, Wisc.; one daughter, Mrs. Gladys Spencer, S-----, Wisc; one brother Greeley cable, Pine Ridge; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Hobbs Shoemaker, Route 2, Beattyville, Mrs. Hattie Hecker, and Ethyl, both of Middletown, Ohio; six grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Clay City Times - July 24, 1941 ROBERT POWELL ROSE, son of the late David Riley and Sarah Adams Rose, was born January 7, 1857 and died at the Clark County Hospital July 18, 1941, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 11 days. He was married to Laura Ewen December 11, 1878. Three children were born to this union. Annabelle Rose, David Riley Rose, deceased and Malissie Rose still living. Laura Ewen Rose died Oct. 30, 1887. Mary Elizabeth Hall became the wife of Mr. Rose June 21, 1888. To this union was born one child, deceased. Mary Elizabeth Hall Rose died June 27, 1914. On December 16, 1914, Mr. Rose married Mary Elizabeth Blount who survives. Others surviving are one sister, Mrs. Eugene French, Stanton: two brothers, Edward Rose, Clay City, Noah Rose, Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Coleman Portwood, Clay City; three grandchildren, Mrs. James I. Frazier, Chicago, Ill., Justus Portwood, Louisville, and Harold Rose, Lexington; two great grandsons, James l. Frazier II, Chicago and Charles Rose, Lexington. Mr. Rose became a member of the Christian Church at 18 years of age. Funeral services were conducted at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Clay City Christian church by Rev. J.C. Everman.
