The following was published in The Mt. Sterling Advocate newspaper on March 28, 1893, page 5, under the Campton section: "Married, Thursday, Mar. 23, at the Combs House, in this place, J.B. Hollon to Miss Rosa B. Byrd, Rev. J.H. Stamper officiating." Timothy J. Barron tim@timbarron.net http://timbarron.net
The following was published in The Hazel Green Herald newspaper on February 19, 1892, page 5: "Died, on Wednesday evening last, the infant son of J.B. Hollon, our County Clerk, at E. Collins', on Bear Pen Creek, about two miles from town, of croup and grip. It was about five months old. Mrs. Collins, who was a sister of Mrs. Hollon, took the child at death of its mother, which occurred when the child was about two months old." The infant was Weden Hollon, son of James Buchanan Hollon and Caroline Hollon (nee Elkins). Caroline died October 11, 1891. The Mrs. Collins would be Esther Collins (nee Elkins), who was the wife of Elijah Collins. Timothy J. Barron tim@timbarron.net http://timbarron.net
The following was published in The Hazel Green Herald newspaper on October 16, 1891, page 5: "The wife of our efficient County Court Clerk, J.B. Hollon, died Saturday night at eleven o'clock, of fever. She is now basking in the sunshine of happiness on Elysian fields where the flowers bloom forever. She was a loving wife and affectionate mother, loved by all who knew her. The bereaved family has the sympathy of this entire community." Caroline Elkins was the first wife of James Buchanan Hollon. While her birth record lists her as Isabellah C. Elkins, all other records refer to her simply as Caroline. Timothy J. Barron tim@timbarron.net http://timbarron.net
Does anyone have specific information on the 1936 shooting of William Lee Terrill / Terrell in Wolfe County? He is the son of Elizabeth Hollon / Holland, who married John Henry Terrill / Terrell. William was born on October 28, 1863, and shot to death on May 8, 1936. I found one mention that he was shot during a bank robbery, and another mention that he was shot during a robbery of a store. The death record does indicate "homicide" as the cause of death. Timothy J. Barron tim@timbarron.net http://timbarron.net
Timothy, I don't have specific info on this person but know in general from my own family that getting to "town" to do birth and death reports wasn't always on the top of their survival list. I have my grandmother with about three different birth notices to the county seat - all of them wrong according to what her mother told her. When she turned 65 the government told her to pick one of the recorded ones and don't try to get the correct date into the system. I have a couple of relatives named one name by their mother but the birth records are recorded with another name because she sent someone to town who didn't write and didn't remember what she said so they made a name up. I also have relatives born one name and after the courthouse burnt lived the rest of their lives with a different name. I noticed that these errors where in a different year volume than the event and had different informants. Hope someone helps clear this up for you.
