She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, James C. Bryant, mother, Maude Bryant, sisters, Myrtle Morris and Alta Spencer, and her brother, James Bryant. WATKINS, Jack age 87 of Spring Hill Florida died Saturday, January 26, 2013, in HPH Hospice of Brooksville, Florida. He was born in Campton, Kentucky on July 27, 1925 the son of Dave and Cappie (Banks) Watkins. On April 27, 1947 he married Doris Turner. Mr. Watkins was a truck driver for O. K. Trucking, retiring in 1985. Survivors include his wife, Doris; five sons, Dave (Claire), Jack (Jane), Ron (Vicki), Dan (Kim), and Dallas (Samantha) Watkins; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two brothers, Homer and Andy Watkins. PORTER, Maggie Lou age 75, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Hospice of Butler and Warren County. She was born February 19, 1937 in Campton, KY to Otis and Lillian (Dean) Kash. She was a school teacher for Trenton City Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Maggie was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church and was the secretary there for many years. She was chairman of the Deacons, served as an Elder, member of the Church Women United and after her retirement, she was a tutor. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip Porter in 2010; brother, William Kash; sister, Mabel Sue Gottschall. Maggie is survived by her children, Scott (Joyce) Porter of Visalia, CA and Carmen Terry of Arvada, CO; grandchildren, April (Bobby) Bauer, Chris Terry; great-grandson, Travis Bauer; brother, Robert E. MILLIGAN, Daisy age 79, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties where she had been a patient for one week. She was born June 28, 1933 in Campton, Kentucky and moved to Ohio when she was 17 years of age. Daisy came from a family of 14 brothers and sisters. She loved spending time with her family and cooking for them. Preceding her in death were her parents, Luther and Judie (Hollin) Coldiron; her husband, Dan Franklin Milligan in 2001; four sisters, Ada, Maxine, Janie, and Rosie; and one brother, Vernon. Bertie L. Center departed this life on December 22, 2012 at the home her daughter, Rosemary F. Center at Frankfort, Kentucky at the age of 104 years, 5 months and 3 days. She was born in Wolfe County, Kentucky on July 19, 1908, the daughter of John and Mary Tyler White. She was preceded in death by her first husband Dr. William G. Lockhart and her second husband Dr. Rexford R. Center. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, William R. Lockhart of Winchester, Kentucky; one grandson, John Martin Lockhart (Karen) of Louisville, Kentucky and three great grandsons, John Martin, Brennan and Kevin Lockhart of Louisville, Kentucky. A great grandson, William Charles “Chad” Lockhart preceded her in death. She is also survived by two wonderful friends Glenda and Lillian of Frankfort, Kentucky. Mrs. Center graduated from the Registered Nursing Program of Louisville General Hospital and Massie Memorial Hospital in Paris, Kentucky in 1942. She returned to Wolfe County and served as the public health nurse for thirty one years. She also served on the Board of Directors of Farmers and Traders Bank of Campton, Kentucky for many years and was an active member of the Wolfe County Women’s Club, as well as, other civic organizations. As a life – long member of Campton First United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school, served on the board of Trustees and was a member of United Methodist Women. Cecil is survived by his children Debra Knorr (James) and Mark Nickell (Kim); grandchildren Robert Morris (Sarah), Timothy Knorr, Christopher Knorr and Cheryl Vandewater (Dane), great-grandchildren Corey, Andrew, Ethan and Christina; sister Jean Sonner; brother William Nickell (Arlene) and many loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Christine Nickell, parents, brothers, Ceaser, Ralph, Lee "L.C."; sisters, Vernie, Vergie, Zola, Evalee, Zona, Bonnie, Betty, Gwinn. Cecil proudly served as a sergeant in the US Army during WWII stationed in Europe. He retired from Champion Paper after 39 years of service. Dean was born in Williamsburg, KY and there, attended Cumberland College. She met Jesse Wade Johnson in 1938 and the couple was married in 1939. Dean and Jesse lived briefly in the Corbin, KY area, and in Ithaca, NY during Jesse's time in World War II, before settling in Campton, KY. The couple lived in Campton from 1945 until 2007, when they moved to Charlotte, NC to be near their daughter and grandson. Dean joined the Campton Baptist Church in 1945 and was an active and devoted member there for over 60 years, serving as the Church Clerk, Church Treasurer and the Sunday School Superintendent. Her church service is best remembered for the many years she spent showcasing her beautiful singing voice in the church choir. Dean was deeply devoted to the community and service to others. She began her career with the Wolfe County School System in 1952 as a teacher at the Pine Ridge Elementary School and went on to serve in various secretarial and administrative capacities at the Rodgers and Campton Elementary Schools and at the Wolfe County High School from 1963 until her retirement in 1993. During those many years, she had the opportunity to touch, encourage and shape the lives of countless students and even a few co-workers. Additionally, she was a Charter member of the Wolfe County Woman's Club. As a woman, Mrs. Johnson had an uncanny ability to balance strength and resolve with elegance and grace; she was business-like in many ways yet at heart, was free-spirited and loved to have fun. She was independent, intelligent and shrewd, yet extremely compassionate and selfless. Mrs. Johnson, or "Dee Dee" as she was called by her loved-ones, was deeply devoted to family and the unique marriage of these various character traits made her an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jesse Wade, a daughter Jessica Johnson Frazier, a sister, Annabelle Gant Byrley and a brother, William Gordon Gant Jr. She is survived by a sister, Virginia Gant Duncan of Melbourne, FL and a brother, Harold Lewis Gant of Corbin, KY, a grandson Forrest Wade Frazier and his wife Jayne and great-grandsons Jess and Maxwell, all of Charlotte, NC. Rita Kay Bowman Brewer of Campton, Kentucky, departed this life Sunday October 7, 2012 at the age of 60 years, 2 months and 5 days. She was a daughter of Mayo Allen Bowman and the late Holmes Bowman, born at Clark County, Kentucky on August 2, 1952. Rita was a former Deputy Jailer and an accountant for the Department of Transportation. She was a loving daughter, mother and aunt. She is survived by her loving mother, Mayo Allen Bowman; three daughters, Stacee Brewer, Tracee Brewer and Halen Amelia Fugate all of Campton, Kentucky; two sisters, Linda Sue Bowman Glenn of Lexington, Kentucky and Libby Bowman of Campton, Kentucky; one special cousin, Carole Bays; two nephews, Ashley Bowman and Lucas Glenn; one niece, Kellie Glenn; one great niece, Abby Bowman; two great nephews, Canaan Bowman and Tytus Weldon and her best friends, Sandy Brooks, Pam Landsaw and Geraldine Tolson. He was a life-long avid outdoorsman, who shared this love with his > closest friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, > Betty Tibbs; his brothers and sisters, Frank, Albert and Herbert D. Tibbs, > Ruby Boyd, Irene Childers, Elsie Herz, America Lou Georgia, Edith Georgia > and sister, baby girl Tibbs.
