The website has address was changed to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/esh/. There are some exciting changes taking place. The hospital cemetery is estimated to have as many as 4500 or more persons buried in it. There are 3 marked graves and one large tombstone. Our goal is to find the names of as many of these individuals as possible. To do this we will need all the help we can get. Locating information prior to the 1911 mandatory registration of deaths is very difficult. We ask that anyone who has any information to please pass it along for inclusion. Newspapers obits are excellent sources of information as well as local county court records/commitment papers. Currently I am gathering death certificates of those who died at the hospital. We have the years 1911 to 1915 posted, but with partial information listed. We are reworking this to include other data such as: place of birth, usual residence, name of parents and their place of birth, occupation, length of stay, cause of death & contributory cause of death. The majority of these persons were from counties other than Fayette and some were also born in other states and countries. Other data already posted includes: 1860 and 1870 Mortality Schedule of hospital deaths; individuals who were patients at the taking of the 1890 Veterans Census; patients listed in the 1870 Federal Population Census; 1833 & 1849 Cholera Deaths and some newspaper accounts of hospital deaths. In the coming months I will be working on gathering more census data, court records of deceased patients, lunacy bonds and locating more newspaper accounts. There are pictures of the Eastern State Hospital Cemetery taken in Nov. 2006. If any one wants information how to obtain a relatives records e-mail address is [email protected] Death certificates can be obtained through 1955 and the 1956 death certificates will out in the next 2-4 months. Jerry Taylor is webmaster and I am the co-ordinator for the Eastern State Hospital Cemetery Project. Thanks, Mary Hatton & Jerry Taylor ([email protected])

Washington Post May 9, 1909 WITH THE DESIRED RESULT. Hazel Green Ky. Herald Polk Sizemore, of Adel, in Morgan County, committed suicide by shooting, Friday last. The particulars, as learned here, are that he took a shotgun and placing it on a chair with the muzzle at his abdomen pushed the trigger with a stick, with the desired result. The cause of the deed is said to have been family trouble, having remarked: "I have lived in hell for years and the original place can be no worse, so I will go there." He leaves a wife, nine children and a host of grandchildren. The remains were laid to rest Saturday.

My uncle saw Lenox's father, Tom, get shot. He was grandpas's cousin. Clifford Peck shot him, but he wasn't aiming for him, he was trying to shot Bob Salley. He did kill Salley, but one bullit hit Tom and killed him. It was in a crowd on Election Day. My uncle was close to him and saw the dust fly off Bob's clothes. They were friends with Bob too, and had been to their house many times. Isn't it awful, how families turned against each other, over an election? --- Carole Bays <[email protected]> wrote: > Wolfe County News - Dec. 12, 1986 > > Mr. Lenox William Brewer, son of the late Tom and > Nannie Brewer, was > born May 8, 1920 in Wolfe County, Kentucky and died > Dec. 5, 1986 near > his home at Denniston, Ky., in Menifee County. The one that killed Nathan was on the witness stand, when someone [one of Nate's brother's] shot the man that killed Nate. He shot through the courthouse window. Nobody would ever tell who did it. He was never tried. One of Nate's brothers, Leonard, Corie Combs, was a world Champion Wrestler for years. My uncle knew her, when they were kids. Courtney was one-eyed. He was Nate's brother. One of them would always catch my uncle, when he was a kid, and hold him up in the air, and make him say things mean about the other one, then laugh. They were o.k. but Nate was a mean one. He was mean to Sylvany and their kids. --- [email protected] wrote: > Here is the death certificate for Nathan L. Arthur and Viola stayed at grandma's house, the night they got married. I used to email Juanita but all of a sudden she quit. I wondered if she might have died. Marie is Viola's sister. Asa is my grandma's cousin. Arthur was grandpa's nephew. Marie's daughter md. Carl Brewer's boy, Denzil Moore Brewer. He was kin to us too. They were close to grandma and grandpa.
