I think you too, Carol. I'm copying all the ones that are my family, or married into it. I really appreciate what you are doing. When my uncle sees someone he knows, it gets his memory started, and I get more stories out of him, ~g~. But, please pray for him. He's been told he doesn't have long to live. The mother of your Rosa was born and died in Indiana. The information that I have says that Rosie was born and died in KY. I believe that her parents would have died in KY as well. Thanks, Kris
Yes, I've known O.C. since I was a kid. Haven't known Harley that long, but they'll be missed. I'm kin to the Rose's too. So many md. into my lines. My grandma's 1st cousin md. a Little. Her first name was Dale, but I forget her maiden name. I've always heard O.C. called 'Olney', and at first, didn't know who people were talking about, when they said 'O.C.' lol............I've got a package of things he sent me just before Christmas, before he died. He was going to send me more. I couldn't understand when they didn't come. Then when I called, Florence told me he had died. I was shocked. I couldn't believe he was gone. I've tried to talk to his wife, about his papers. I was hoping she'd have them published or something. But, I don't know. That's a lot to be lost to everybody. I offered to get them together, into book form, and help, but she refused. I even offered to buy the ones that connected to my Brewer's and such, but she said no. He was going to send me copies of what he had. I was hoping to tie up some loose ends I could find. He was going to help me. Guess now I won't. I'd just talked to him on the phone, the week before he died. His parents, Shi and Gladys, used to visit us a lot, when grandma and grandpa were alive. I think I got mixed up, when I told the story earlier. I was half asleep and think I said 'Billy Sue' instead of Gladys. I'm getting old, but not as old as my uncle, who'll be reading this,lol...............I admit I make mistakes, ~g~ Wanda --- Bess Rose Miller <[email protected]> wrote: > Wanda-- > My husband usually attends that reunion. I don't know if this is where Green Kelly got his name, but Kelly Green is a color. According to Wikipedia it is also known as "grass green" or "pigment green". It is the shade of green that is achieved by mixing pigment cyan and pigment yellow in equal proportions. Colored pencils of the 1950s colored this shade were also called "grass green". Dan Brewer
My g-grandfather was Green Brewer. There were so many Greens and Greenberry's, that they would get all mixed up, by genealogists. Also, my grandfather had a brother named Kelly. He died when he was 11, as a tree fell on him. I named my youngest son Kelly Ray. Grandma asked me where I got the name 'Kelly', and I really didn't know, just knew I liked it. Still, neither she nor grandpa said a word about his brother. Funny. My uncle was the one that told about him. So, that got me to wondering, since both are also surnames, and I can't find half of my line farther back than g-g's, if there might be a Green line and a Kelly one. Thanks for the reply. Wanda-- We are having our annual "big" Swango Reunion at Natural Bridge State Park the 2nd weekend in August this year. People come from several states to this reunion. If you'd like more info I can give you the e-mail of the president for this year--Steve Tutt--and he can tell you the details and things that are planned for this year. Bess
Yes, Wanda, As a matter of fact, I wrote most of it. We had a committee and worked for over 5 years to produce that book. I put all the names in on my family tree maker and wrote the 1st four chapters. My cousin, Tutt Lambert and his wife, Lois , did the chapter on Swangos in the Civil War. They went to Washington D.C. archives and found 20 Civil War soldier with the name of Swango. 9 were Confederate and 11 were Union. My sister, Norma Rose Profitt, wrote the chapter on reunion, and we all contributed to Swango memorials--I think Tutt and Lois did the chapter on Swango Heroes. Our pictures are near the front of the book. I am also the treasurer for the committee and send out the books to people who order them. I hope you have enjoyed your book. Bess
I would love to know where the names 'Green' and 'Kelly' came from. I figure somewhere, back there, we must have a Green line and a Kelly one, as it was common to give your children the surname of a mother or grandmother.
