    1. [KYWHITLE] Announcement of MOSES Y DNA Study
    2. Steven C. Perkins
    3. >From Marsha Moses, MosesM@Earthlink.net ------- Forwarded message follows ------- I just finished sealing the packet containing DNA samples from the inside of my husband's cheeks to send back to FamilyTreeDNA in Texas. The actual taking of a sample is soooooo simple and takes approximately 2 minutes. I hope that we will have lots of male Moses participants in the next few months! In case you have forgotten how to order your own kit or a kit for a family member, here is the URL for our ordering site: http://home.earthlink.net/~mosesm/ If you have questions on any part of the research project, please e-mail me or the list with any of your questions! Steven Perkins is on this list and he has lots of answers--and I am happy to look up anything that you might want to know as well. My husband's earliest documented ancestor is Archy Moses who fought in the Civil War. Some other lines that I expect to match with my husband's DNA samples are: Moses lines who descend from the Samuel Moses b. circa 1755 who fought in the Revolution and is found in Augusta County, Virginia circa 1782. I also expect to find matches among lines who descend from the William and Samuel Moses who are found in Nelson County in the census of 1810. I also expect to find matches among some descendents who are still living in the Putnam County, WV area who descend from Thomas Moses b. 1809/10. I believe that Thomas is a brother to my Archy. Thomas and his wife moved away from Montgomery County, Virginia with Thomas's sister, Mary and her husband William Best while Archy was still quite young--before the Civil War. I think that there will be matches with descendents of Jacob B. Moses who is found in the 1850 in Montgomery County, Va census with children Elizabeth, Susannah, and John in the home. I think that there will be matches with descendents of William H. Moses living in Montgomery County, Virginia in the 1879 census with the following children in his household: William, Otey, Sarah, John, George, Melvina, Mary, and Samuel I think that there will be matches with descendents of John Lewis Moses who married Sarah Jane Moore and had the following children: Mary, John, James Henry, Louise, Charles, Elizabeth, Bernardine, George Edward Alberton, Bertie (children born between 1854 and 1885) I think that there will be matches with descendents of Alexander Moses living in Roanoke County, Va from 1833-1911 with children: William Joseph, Mary Elizabeth, Henry Adam, John Harrison, Andrew Jackson, Paulina Ann, Charles Edward, Archibald Luis, Walter Fleming and Virginia Alice (children born between 1859 and 1880) I think that we may be surprised to find some matches that we do not expect to find--indicating that there was a family relationship between some Moses men that we thought were totally unrelated. So it would be extremely helpful if we had participants who do not expect to match any of these people. We want every Moses male possible to participate. It would be wonderful if we had some Moses males in Germany or England or Ireland or wherever as well. So everyone put on your thinking caps and see if we can find all sorts of Moses men who will help us decide the most likely direction in which to look for our earliest immigrants. Please pass the information on to anyone that you know who does Moses genealogy. Even if they do not carry the Moses name, they may have cousins, Uncles, other family members whose DNA could represent their lines DNA results. I hope to hear from lots of you.
