Jones are hard to research even if you know who you are looking for. I'm looking for the parents of Stephen Jones, born about 1864. His mother was Lucy Henderson. We don't know who his father was. His death certificate says Jim Sears but my aunt says that is an error. He was raised by Jones. He was born in Whitley County but moved to Knox County after 1920 and before 1927. His Jones brother was Bob and his Jones sisters were Susan, Julie, Mollie "Polly". >From the 1870 Knox County Census, there is a C. B. & Verah Jones with children Stephen A., age 9 (1869). A sister Susan was also listed. >From the 1870 Whitley County Census, there is a James & S. A. Jones listed with H. S. age 7. This could be _______Stephen. None of the siblings match. >From the 1880 Whitley County Census, there is a George & Eliza Jones who have Susan and Polly and a male infant, age ?. Could this be Stephen, unamed as of that time. >From the 1880 Whitley County Census, there is a Jesse & Delany who have one child, Stephen age 14 listed as servant. No others listed. >From the 1880 Whitley County Census, there is a James Jr. and wife Hannah with Wm. S., age 12. No siblings match. This has got me stumped. If Stephen was raised by the Jones, which of these Jones families raised him? Who was his father. Stephen Jones married Nancy Gross, d/o William "Bill" & Martha (Leonard) Gross. They came from Claiborne Co., TN. The Gross' lived at Rockhold on the Rollins farm. Can anyone rule out any of these families? ANY help would be appreciated! Mary Siler
