    3. I am trying to break through a long-existing brick wall on the family of my great-great-grandmother, Josephine (Stevens) Rose. She was married to my great-great-grandfather Granville Perry Rose in Whitley County, Kentucky, probably about 1866-1867 (in the 1900 census they said they'd been married for 33 years). I have quite a bit of info about his family background, and about their life after marriage, but about her family I know almost nothing. Her death certificate (with info provided by her son George L. Rose) states that her father's name was William Stevens and her mother's name unknown, and that she was born in Whitley County, Kentucky, on 21 February 1846. I've searched every Stevens/Stephens family in Whitley County in the 1850 and 1860 census, and none of the men named William have a daughter named Josephine or Josie or anything similar. However, I did find a Josephine Stevens of about the correct age living with a Nancy Stevens in both 1850 and 1860 - and she is the only girl of that name found in any of the Stevens/Stephens families in these census years. In 1850 they were living near the household of a Michael Stevens, and in 1860 in the same household. Given the ages shown, I wonder if Michael Stevens might have been the father of Nancy's husband, who perhaps had died just prior to the 1850 census (she had an infant at home, so presumably not too long before). Unfortunately, these census years do not tell us anything about the family relationships of the people listed, so these are all guesswork. Can anyone here provide further info about these people? Michael Stevens - age uncertain, shown as 67 in 1850 and 68 in 1860, not found in 1870 or 1880 - born in Tennessee, according to both 1850 and 1860 census - possibly had a son named William who died about 1849-1850 - possibly married to Dacy, listed with him in 1850 as age 57 Nancy Stevens (maiden name unknown) - possibly married to William Stevens - appears in/near household of Michael Stevens in 1850 and 1860 - born about 1826 - age shown as 24 in 1850 and 34 in 1860 - not found in 1870 or later - possibly died or remarried Josephine Stevens - born about 1846-1847 - married to Granville Perry Rose about 1866-1867 (per 1900 census) - possibly married first to someone named Sherline? - had M.B. Sherline (female age 5) living with them in 1870 Thank you for any help you can give. If needed, I can provide more info about the family of Granville & Josephine Rose after they left Whitley County.
