Thanks Mary, you read my mind. I was gonna ask you to look. It could well be C.P. is buried in OK. Think I'll run an Ancestry search on him now. Joe & Terry & Evelyn Boy, talk about a fibber....I was going to listen to the tape when I went up to bed. Well, I was so tired I fell asleep before I heard the first word. Now, Tye's land was located in Tillman Co., closer to Tipton. If memory serves me correctly, it's on the south of Tipton toward Fredrick. It's been quite a few years since I've been there. Before I shut off the puter last night, I did do a good bit of looking through my dociments. Today I'll get out the disk. Anyway, what was bothering me was Ann Lawson, I just knew CP had been married to a Croley, but I couldn't find it. Bless your heart. It reassurred me this ole mind is still functioning some. Out of curiousity, when you found the Geo. Powers, did you happen to see a Case with them? Tye's wife was Matilda "Tee" Case Rose. Tee's grandmother, Emeline Elizabeth Didama Permelia Fletcher Case id buried there in Beckham Co. She died at 90. JV did tell me she had married a Rose in her very later years, but things didnt go well. Her death certificate says Case for her last name. No mention of Rose. Have you found anything much on the George Powers? He signed Didama's death certificate. She died in the 1930's. You mentioned a Rose in the 1930 census, was it male or female. Could have been Didama that is listed as the Emaline. It said she was 87 in 1930 and I believe it was in 1933 she died. And if she had maried that Rose man, it would be for sure. I'm thinking she lived with this George Powers in the few years before she died. (That's from memory.) I may have a good bit more if this is the George I'm thinking it is. Could you share what you have on George Powers?....Lois > Lois and Evelyn, > > My records show that Calvin P. Rose married #1 Anna Lawson b. 8-15-1840 d/o > James Lawson and Elizabeth Croley. You said: We were checking out Greenberry Powers, s/o George Powers and Sarah Chaudin(all from Whitley). *********** There is an M. Chandoin with one date--12-1-1855 buried in the Old Cane Creek Grave yard in Whitley County. Mary S.
Does anyone know anything about a Powell family. I'm searching for a Caleb Powell who lived in KY in 1825, but cannot find him in either 1820 or 1830 Census. He probably died some time in between those dates. He had children living there but don't know their names. He supposedly lived at "Catfish Falls" but can find no reference to that location. Help !!! Mary Case
Lois, I need you to get me straightened out on something. I am not sure why I am even following the line of Lawson's and Rose's except that my husband traces through the Croley's and Rose's but not these particular ones. I have two Henry Lawson's, one the son of Isham Lawson and Nancy Jane Croley, other the son of James Lawson and Elizabeth Croley. That makes them double first cousins. What I have on them came from information you sent to Whitley Branches. I could go back to that, but I figure you will come nearer to getting me straight. The Henry Lawson born to Isham and Nancy Jane was born 24 Aug 1825 and married Lucinda Bennett. The Henry Lawson born to James and Elizabeth was born abt 1817 and married Sara Rose. The difficulty I have is that James and Elizabeth were married in 1823, but their Henry was born in 1817. Isham and Nancy Jane were married in 1814 and their Henry was born 24 Aug 1825. Do I have the two Henry reversed? Please unconfuse me. Lois and Evelyn, My records show that Calvin P. Rose married #1 Anna Lawson b. 8-15-1840 d/o James Lawson and Elizabeth Croley. They were married 11-1-1865 per Campbell Co., Tennessee marriage records. Calvin married #2 Celia Miller b. April 1842. Campbell county marriage records show they married 7-27-1894. Lois, you said that Tye Rose came to Oklahoma. My wife and I have been researching Whitley families that came to Oklahoma. Where did Tye and family live? We've just found another Rose in the Beckham county, Oklahoma 1930 census. We were checking out Greenberry Powers, s/o George Powers and Sarah Chaudin(all from Whitley). Greenberry's wife was named Mary and living with them in the 1930 census was Mary's widowed 87 y/o, Emaline ROSE. I've been going thru my Rose records. Could Emaline be Emily/Emaliza Croley b. 1843 who married Madison Rose s/o Benjamin Merritt Rose and Elizabeth Powers? I've found several of Benjamin Merritt Rose's decendents who came to Oklahoma. More than likely he did remarry. Let me think on it tonight and some things may fly through the dust under my cap. I've no idea what is wrong with my FTM, unless I have the wrong one up searching it. I did notice I had one then a backup. In a bit I'll check the backup and see what I find. There should be a lot more Rose information there. Lots more. Also, gonna listen to some of J.V. and my chatter. He was 90 and his mind was so clear. So far I've only found one thing he was off on. It was a year of someones birth. Lois, I have the new Whitley County Grave yard books. C. P. Rose is not listed in that Old Bird Eye Cemetery in them either. The stone is probably eroded so badly that it can't be read. Mary S.
Thank you, Evelyn. I have 6 90 minute tapes of my uncle J.V. Rose talking family history with me. Guess it's time to relisten to them. I should transcribe them but wow, what a lot of typing. C.P.'s son Silas Sylvesters "Tye" Rose was my uncle J.V.'s father. Tye went to OK in one of the Land Rushes they had, and settled there. WhenI find where he is buried I'll post it to the list in case it'll help anyone......Lois In a message dated 4/9/2003 9:35:53 PM Eastern Daylight Time, eew72@comcast.net writes: > > Calvin Prichard Rose is not listed as being buried there. Lois I've been thinking about your question. Anna Rose was only 39 when she died. Could C. P. Rose possibly have married again? Calvin Prichard Rose is not listed as being buried there. If you know someone with the new cemetery books, maybe they have something different. Johnny Cox, Sr., who is now deceased was the one who wrote up the Old Birdeye Cemetery for the Cornelius cemetery books. I searched all three volumes of the Cornelius cemetery books and could not find Calvain Prichard Rose in any of the cemeteries.. Good luck. I am seeking : ELIZABETH SARAH/SARAH ELIZABETH (BETTIE) WHITE PETERS b:abt 1837 d: between 1865 -1870 she married SAMUEL PETERS b:1839 d: between 1920-1930 .I cant find a grave for either one. They had 5 daughters, one unmarried who died by 1900, leaving a 12 yr old son with his aunt (his mom's sister) and uncle.CHINA JANE (PETERS) who married LESLIE HARRISON *aka*HARRIS,HARRISON, L.H. ROSE. At this time I do not know what sister it is i have it narrowed down to 3 out of 4. ELIZA PETERS b: 1859,AMANDAPETERS b: 1964 or MARY M. PETERS b:1865. I have oral info.from a decendant that the nephew's mom was buried in LAUREL CO KY. somewhere and when the lake was made they moved her to MILL CREEK CEMETERY in a unmarked grave. I am so sorry it is so long but it is sorta hard to explaine in a short version. Thank you very much for looking, and as you can see by the 'ROSE" surname it turned out ok.as i will check out the new 'ROSE " lead. :>) Vonnie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Evelyn E. Thank you Evelyn. That must be him! The dates are right. Now if we just knew where his wife is buried and her maiden name. I appreciate you. Mary S. IN GOD WE TRUST.
Evelyn I gleaned a bit from your post today on the Old Birdseye Cem. on Cane Creek. You said Anna Rose, wife of C.P. Rose (Calvin Prichard) is buried there. Did I misunderstand or isn't C.P. No problem to look, but I found no Peters listed. Apparently it is a small and old cemetery. The only names listed as of 1976 were Clara Lawson, Wade H. Lawson, Sampson B. Lawson, Annie Rose (wife of C. P. Rose), and James Siler. There could have been some unmarked graves. Clara Lawson was the last one buried there at that time and she died in 1927. Are there any particular Paters you are trying to find? About what time frame? I have the Cornelius' cemetery books (not the new Whitley Co. ones), but I could look for them. Does anyone know where the wives of Terrell Siler are buried? Their names were Jamaca Brimm Siler whom he married in 1886 and probably died before 1901 as that is when he married his second wife, Nannie Frances Bowlin d/o Greenberry & Amy (Rains) Bowlin. We have been told that Terrell is buried in the Siler Cemetery at Verne in an unmarked grave but are not sure. Also does anyone know who the parents were of Jamaca Brimm? Mary S.
