Cousins, I seem to have mislaid my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Samuel Slone. Born in Harlan Co. KY abt 1827. Moved to VA when young. Married x 2: 1. Elizabeth Clark 2. Susan Children by Elizabeth all born in Lee Co. VA 1860 census: Lee Co. VA 1870: Knox CO. KY 1880: Menifee Co. KY 1890: on tax list of Laurel Co. KY 1900: 1910: Back in Laurel Co. KY, where he died shortly after the census was taken, & buried in Laurel. His 2nd wife also died in Laurel, in 1901. I figure he might have been visiting one of his married children, who lived all over Southeast KY: Knox, Whitley, Bell, or whatever unknown county is harboring all my lost relatives. (You know, Brigadoon, KY?) A few relatives also lived in Campbell Co. TN. They used every conceivable spelling variation. Puuuuhhhh- LEEEEZE help me find him in 1900. He might have been with sons or gr-sons: William, John C., Charles, James, Samuel H. or Samuel T. Any assistance gratefully acknowledged. Pat Hobson "They can hide but they can't run."
hello everyone...I need a marriage look up for the yr 1900 it was either in Knox...Whitley...Clay...or Harlan Co's the names are ? Wynn and Alice Lawson or a Lawson and a Wynn...the reason i'm being so cheap on the names is because my great grandpa wynn sure had alot of names...in the 1900 census for whitley he was list as cain born 2/1878 born in ky...on his son's death and marriage license he is listed as canner and caner Wynn...on his 2nd daughters death cert he's listed as caynor Wynn and on his 3rd and last child's death cert he listed as caynor Wynn..so you see why this man has me so confused...I know that my grandpa his son John Wynn was born on 1/2/1903 and his last sister was born on 3/26/1907 all in swan lake ky...his wife alice Lawson was remarried to William Bennett and had the 1st of 4 children with mr bennett in 1911..William Bennett and Alice Lawson Wynn Bennett were married in 1910 i've only found the wynn family together once with no children yet born to th! em in 1900 when they were married...could someone please help me..i've looked for this man for so long...I can't go back any further untill I know his true identity...maybe this name was a middle name or something...but it's pretty obvious it's the name he went by..it says he was born in clay co in one of the death certs that was filled out for his middle child mary jane Wynn...SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS MAN! Thanks so much in advace ..Denise please email me direct at poohthatswho66@comcast.net Mail is scanned by Norton antivirus no worrys here Mail is scanned by Norton antivirus no worrys here
Hi Evelyn, Thank you so very much for your reply. I am retired now living in Jacksonville, Florida, and am tied to an Oxygen tank part time, so it is doubtful if I'll be back in Kentucky. Overnight ravel is possible, but a real hassle with oxygen. Could you tell me the distance and direction from the nearest town? I could possibly locate them on a map with that information. Or someone on the list may have the geographical coordinates. Again, I really appreciate the information. Monty > Dear Monty, > > I am quite familiar with both of the locations you mention. Dear Monty, I am quite familiar with both of the locations you mention. I lived in the Gap o'the Ridge area for most of my childhood. You will not find it on a map unless you can find an old map of the school districts of Whitley Co. A two-room school was located there, but it was torn down many years ago. The Faddis Cemetery is also called the Old Steele Cemetery and is at the Gap o'the Ridge. As a child I used to go there with my great-grandmother to clean off the graves of her second husband George W. Davis and his first wife. I have the map from the Cornelius Cemetery Book, Vol. 1, but I am not sure you can find the cemetery from that map. Do you plan to go there? If so, I will give you the best instructions I can. Let me know. Faddis Cemetery and Gap O'Ridge are mentioned in a Steele family book. Can anyone tell me the location of these two places so I can find them on a Kentucky map? Any help appreciated. Monty Reed ex Powell Co, Ky
Yes, we stayed in close touch on the Hollers line, and all of them were so nice. Don't guess her children are remotely interested in genealogy?

Yes Alma was one at the beginning who find me and answerd Hinkle questions I had just started my research and I did not hardly know where to begin let alone help others. I was really wet behind the ears. Alma found me and wrote e-mailed me sent me pictures and of the Piney Grove Baptist Church & Cemetery, there in Whitley County,Kentucky. Alma sent me family sheet reports a copy of the Land Deed the when James Madison Hinkle and his 2nd wife Mary "Polly" Taylor Hinkle gave land for the Pinry Grove Baptist Church & Cemetery to been built, church services are still taking place and burial still going on also. But James Madison Hinkle was Alma's GGG Grandfather and my GGGG Grandfather. Alma helped me in a very much, I sent Hinkle pictures to her the one picture I sent her was of her Great Grandfather James Maddison Hinkle Peter Hinkle & Margaret Elizabeth Jones Hinkle's oldest son and 1st born. It was a family picture of all of Peter & Margaret's children it was taken around 1933 in Pulaski County,Kentucky. I have a 8x10 picture of it. Just thankful to have known Alma and for all she had done for me. Will miss her a great deal. I just guess Alan feel lost with out his sister, I know Alma spent time with him when he had hearts operation I would say maybe 2 years ago, there in Florida. She sent Christmas card and many Hinkle Information everytime I would get something new I would share with Alma. I was not notified either, but happened to be looking at Hollers obits on the internet, and saw her name listed, I called A. J. but was unable to reach him for a while. He finally called me back and said that she had had surgery for circulation in her legs, her sons went home and the hospital called them back around 12:30 a.m., stating that she had passed away. I just presume from a blood clot. I was in total shock! In 1990 I instigated a Hollers Family Reunion in Longview, TX., A. J., Alma and Doris all came, that is the first time I had met them, and they were just like cousins to me. In fact, if we can ever figure out the connection, I believe we will rake up kin. For several years we had Hollers Reunions, 3 different times in Somerset, KY., just had a ball. Has been years since we have tried again, due to burn-out, I think? You just can not put together a Reunion from a distance via telephone. Now I am getting so old and decrepid (sp) that I am unable to travel, much less do any walking. Anyway, to make a long story short, Alma, A. J., & Doris' ancestor, Wm. Hollers who married Emilia Nevins/Nevells, and my grt grandfather, Alberton/Albert/Burt Holler were supposedly born in Whitley Co., KY. Some census says TN., so I do not know what is right? I have never found the parents of my Albert Hollers, and lost him in OK. after 1910 Census. Still searching!
Cousins, Forgive me if you get this on more than one list-- I have a chance to do a research trip and I'm trying to get a few details into the puter before I go digging. Does anyone have any marriage record for a Mary or Mary J. Noe? Born 1886, daughter of Steven Ledford Noe & his wife Ellen Carpenter. Mary's siblings are Della, Jemima, and Wolford. Della married VERY young, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mary did, also. This family is related by marriage to the Slone/ Sloan family and also (by means not yet discovered) to the Marcum, Tutt, and Helton families. Family is in Corbin in 1910 census (Whitley county) & Mary is living with her parents & a daughter Ella, age 4. Anybody know these folks? Can anybody find a marriage record for Mary? Many thanks! Pat H.

Wondering if you could be thinking about the SEEBEES, which was a naval construction battalion during WWII. My father was in that part of the service.
Don, The CCC camps were the Civilian Conservation Corps. You can go to Google and put in a search "CCCcamps" and it will come up with your answers. The below address takes you to a search of thier records. Nancy http://www.crl.edu/content.asp?l1=5&l2=23&l3=44&l4=23
I was wondering if anyone on the list had ever heard of a program that was in affect in the 30's around this area called the C B's My father had told me he was in some kind of program and I know about the 3C's but I had sent away to get his records from them and he wasn't in the 3 C's acording to them , After talking with other family members they thought it was the CB's I have no idea what that stands for hoping for some help from someone whom has been through this. Any help appreciated Thanks Don
