Hello all, I am seeking the parents of Martha Elizabeth Perkins b abt 1879 in Whitley County Ky. I cant seem to find her on the 1880 Census. She is located on the 1900 Census with her husband Jospeh L. Lawson and their daughter Pearly. On the 1920 Census on Joe Lawson with their two remaining children are found showing that this couple divorced some time prior to that census. Any help in locating who her parents are would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sandra KYWHITLE-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote:> ATTACHMENT part 1 message/rfc822 KYWHITLE-D Digest Volume 03 : Issue 17 Today's Topics: #1 [KYWHITLE] Taylors, lines of John ["Tim & Valorie Spence" #2 [KYWHITLE] email change ["Denise" Administrivia: To unsubscribe from KYWHITLE-D, send a message to KYWHITLE-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains in the body of the message the command unsubscribe and no other text. SILER REUNION I want everyone to write down the date for the 2003 SILER Reunion. It's September 13 at the Old Cane Creek Grave Yard, Whitley County, KY. This is where Jacob O. Sr. & Rachel (TEAGUE) SILER are buried. Last Year six of Jacob & Rachel (Teague) Siler's children were represented at the Siler Reunion of September 14, 2002. Their number 2 son-Weimer Alvis & Sarah (Mode) Siler had six descendants; Number 4 son-Adam & Mary (Brock) Siler had seventeen descendants; Number 5 child-Mary "Polly" & William Sands Lambdin had six; Number 6 son-Burgess & Mary Ann (Croley) Siler had three; Number 9 son-Hedrick Benjamin & Jennie (Warren) Siler had six; Number 10 son-Jacob O, Jr. & Margaret (Mode) Siler had thirteen. I listed only the direct descendants. There are a few who descend from more than one line. We had a great time! We had tents set up and everyone brought a sack lunch and a chair. If you are a descendant of Jacob O. Siler, Sr. and his wife Rachel Teague, mark this date! e on your calendar and plan to come be with us. You will be more than welcome! E-mail us for more information or directions. Mary & Roy Siler Siler44@aol.com
If, you have not already heard the news, the Kentucky Historical Society is again looking for a new director. As a member of the historical society, and a patron who spends several hours at the facility each week, I'm concerned with the direction the society seems to be taking. A couple of years ago the historical society moved into a new facility which ranks at the top or very near the top of the finest research facilities in the country. Unfortunately, since the move to the new building it appears as though our membership has dropped! In the time that I have been using the library, never once have I seen any mention of the Kentucky Historical Society, its library, or the many services that are provided in ANY of the genealogical magazines that I have and do continue to subscribe too. I have attended conferences, and seminars outside the state in which we should at the very least be represented by a speaker! It seems for whatever reason we are a very well kept secret! Interest in our society needs to be revived! It seems as though the time has come for a director who wants the society to grow and expand. I for one would like to see not only the first floor of the library stack area filled with books, but also the addition of a second floor! The last director was brought in from out of state, which to me doesn't make a lot of sense. It is time that the director of the historical society is a Kentuckian, with knowledge of the history of the state, a vast knowledge of the genealogical holdings within the state, the ability to understand the needs of genealogical, and historical researchers, and the ability to work with our state legislature for the benefit of the society. I wish to nominate Mr. Ron D. Bryant as the new director of the Kentucky Historical Society. Ron D. Bryant not only has seventeen years of experience with the library, is a ninth generation Kentuckian, but is also extremely knowledgeable of the history and genealogical holdings in Kentucky. He is a noted librarian and lecturer on Kentucky, having written over eighty articles, and is the author of Kentucky History - An Annotated Bibliography published in 2000. If Ron D. Bryant becomes director of the historical society, he has stated that he will continue to help patrons with their research in the library. He believes that the director needs to be aware of the patrons needs, and that we must increase our membership. As I mentioned above, I wish to nominate Ron D. Bryant for this position, but I can't do so with your help. If, you agree with me, please send letters to the following gentlemen advising them to name Ron D. Bryant Director of the Kentucky Historical Society: Selection Committee c/o Mr. Walter Baker 917 S. Green Street Glasgow, KY 42141-2086 Selection Committee c/o Mr. Richard L. Taylor 335 Holt Lane Frankfort, KY 40601 Selection Committee c/o Mr. Thomas D. Clark 175 Kentucky Ave. Lexington, KY 40502 Many thanks for your help. Shelby A. Williams

Through them I was able to obtain a marriage bond and license from 1876 and I even got lucky enough to get a hand written note from the father of the bride. I am not home at the moment to get you the information to contact them but some one on line here probably could help us out or you can contact me again and I will get the info for you. >From Marsha Moses, MosesM@Earthlink.net ------- Forwarded message follows ------- I just finished sealing the packet containing DNA samples from the inside of my husband's cheeks to send back to FamilyTreeDNA in Texas. The actual taking of a sample is soooooo simple and takes approximately 2 minutes. I hope that we will have lots of male Moses participants in the next few months! In case you have forgotten how to order your own kit or a kit for a family member, here is the URL for our ordering site: http://home.earthlink.net/~mosesm/ If you have questions on any part of the research project, please e-mail me or the list with any of your questions! Steven Perkins is on this list and he has lots of answers--and I am happy to look up anything that you might want to know as well. My husband's earliest documented ancestor is Archy Moses who fought in the Civil War. Some other lines that I expect to match with my husband's DNA samples are: Moses lines who descend from the Samuel Moses b. circa 1755 who fought in the Revolution and is found in Augusta County, Virginia circa 1782. I also expect to find matches among lines who descend from the William and Samuel Moses who are found in Nelson County in the census of 1810. I also expect to find matches among some descendents who are still living in the Putnam County, WV area who descend from Thomas Moses b. 1809/10. I believe that Thomas is a brother to my Archy. Thomas and his wife moved away from Montgomery County, Virginia with Thomas's sister, Mary and her husband William Best while Archy was still quite young--before the Civil War. I think that there will be matches with descendents of Jacob B. Moses who is found in the 1850 in Montgomery County, Va census with children Elizabeth, Susannah, and John in the home. I think that there will be matches with descendents of William H. Moses living in Montgomery County, Virginia in the 1879 census with the following children in his household: William, Otey, Sarah, John, George, Melvina, Mary, and Samuel I think that there will be matches with descendents of John Lewis Moses who married Sarah Jane Moore and had the following children: Mary, John, James Henry, Louise, Charles, Elizabeth, Bernardine, George Edward Alberton, Bertie (children born between 1854 and 1885) I think that there will be matches with descendents of Alexander Moses living in Roanoke County, Va from 1833-1911 with children: William Joseph, Mary Elizabeth, Henry Adam, John Harrison, Andrew Jackson, Paulina Ann, Charles Edward, Archibald Luis, Walter Fleming and Virginia Alice (children born between 1859 and 1880) I think that we may be surprised to find some matches that we do not expect to find--indicating that there was a family relationship between some Moses men that we thought were totally unrelated. So it would be extremely helpful if we had participants who do not expect to match any of these people. We want every Moses male possible to participate. It would be wonderful if we had some Moses males in Germany or England or Ireland or wherever as well. So everyone put on your thinking caps and see if we can find all sorts of Moses men who will help us decide the most likely direction in which to look for our earliest immigrants. Please pass the information on to anyone that you know who does Moses genealogy. Even if they do not carry the Moses name, they may have cousins, Uncles, other family members whose DNA could represent their lines DNA results. I hope to hear from lots of you.
