I thought you all might be interested to see part of an e-mail I got from Webster County KYGenWeb assistant co-ordinator Dot Lauver Monday evening. Dot and her husband Fred live outside Henderson. I believe Dot's Webster County ancestors would be proud of the resourceful ways she and Fred have managed to get by during this awful storm, which left four Webster Countians dead. A real tragedy. Dot's e-mail below. Lost electric last Tuesday 4PM and still OUT! Our gas logs and Oil lamps [6] have saved us. Three were >antique lamps I had made into electric [I turned them back to oil.] > >We have our refrigerator foods in coolers outside. Cooking outside on grill and large burner. Took turns with son Bill for his generator to >keep freezer going. I have been at home for 6 days without electric. I went to Henderson today, roads are good, certain items in stores >are not available. I knew the storm was coming last week and I stocked up with necessary items, we have been OK. Our home phone is >still out, our cell was out for 2 days. I don't mind to be iced/snowed in as long as I have electric and phone. Since so many phones are >out, they are telling us to turn our front porch lights on if our electric comes back on so the crews will know we have electric. The >governor was here in Henderson last week to survey the damage. > >Son Bill has electric now and late this afternoon we have full use of his generator. We have the refrigerator, freezer, 2 computers and three >lights going. Don't plan to start the furnace until tomorrow because the gas logs have kept us comfortable 62* to 69* all the time during >power outage. When the winter sun is out it shines in our back windows and we have wonderful radiant heat. We closed off rooms we >did not need and that helped keep the heat where needed. > >I have read some of the CC's storm stories and I feel lucky to have been able to stay at home and be comfortable [to a point] during this >storm. We had to listen to the Super Bowl on the radio last night, sounded like a great game to watch. > >Fred just told me that we have a 50% chance for snow tomorrow. :( We hope the electric is restored before the next storm gets here. > >More later. Hugs, Dot
