This will be of great interest to western Kentucky researchers, especially those of Webster, Hopkins, and Henderson Counties. Trudy Herron Moneyhan has made a very generous contribution to the Webster County KYGenWeb site - her excellent work, "Herron Heritage", in which she traces the Herrin/Herron surname from Anglo-Saxon Britain, to Virginia and later to western Kentucky and Webster/Hopkins Counties. Trudy's history is much more than names, dates and places. She weaves her family story into events of the times and makes it exciting to read, even if you don't have Herron ancestry. Trudy has also made good use of illustrations and documents in "Herron Heritage". In the second two files, Trudy shares with us stories of the family as they went about their daily lives; she has a real gift for writing - each of us can identify with the story Trudy has written about her last visit to the old Herron homeplace in Dixon. And Trudy ends her work with Harold Utley's great story about the infamous Harp brothers, "Frontier Justice". Trudy's work is in the form of three files (two of them quite large) in the pdf format. You will need to have or download a copy of the free Acrobat Reader program in order to view the files. Instructions are given as to downloading the free program. The two large files take a few moments to open completely, even if you have a high-speed internet connection. But you can begin reading while the remainder of the file loads. I sincerely hope all of you will be able to read and enjoy Trudy's splendid work, which you can find at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kywebste/families/herrin/herron-info.htm Thank you Trudy for sharing your research with us! Can you guys see how excited I am about this?? I'm going to go read the whole thing again right now. <grin> Carole Palmer Webster County KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kywebste/ Webster County KY USGenWeb Archives http://www.usgwarchives.org/ky/webster/webster.html My Personal Genealogy Site http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cpalmer/index.html
Carole, I have been trying to get in touch with Trudy, to tell her what I remember in Dixon about the Herons. I remember the family, and "Cutie" Heron, whom she mentions. I couldn't get past page 25, and I would love to read the rest of her research. -----Original Message----- From: kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Carole Palmer Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:03 AM To: kywebste@rootsweb.com; kyhender@rootsweb.com; kyhopkin@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYWEBSTE] Herron Heritage - new material online This will be of great interest to western Kentucky researchers, especially those of Webster, Hopkins, and Henderson Counties.
