Carole, I have just finished copying about 25 pages on the Herons. I, too, and descended from the Heron who lived in the castle in England. I will have to to look up just where I connect to Trudy. She has done a truly remarkable thesis. I am very impressed. How are you and your family, and how is your Aunt, Amalee? Let's met for lunch!! Love you, Helen -----Original Message----- From: kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Carole Palmer Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:03 AM To: kywebste@rootsweb.com; kyhender@rootsweb.com; kyhopkin@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYWEBSTE] Herron Heritage - new material online This will be of great interest to western Kentucky researchers, especially those of Webster, Hopkins, and Henderson Counties. Trudy Herron Moneyhan has made a very generous contribution to the Webster County KYGenWeb site - her excellent work, "Herron Heritage", in which she traces the Herrin/Herron surname from Anglo-Saxon Britain, to Virginia and later to western Kentucky and Webster/Hopkins Counties. Trudy's history is much more than names, dates and places. She weaves her family story into events of the times and makes it exciting to read, even if you don't have Herron ancestry. Trudy has also made good use of illustrations and documents in "Herron Heritage". In the second two files, Trudy shares with us stories of the family as they went about their daily lives; she has a real gift for writing - each of us can identify with the story Trudy has written about her last visit to the old Herron homeplace in Dixon. And Trudy ends her work with Harold Utley's great story about the infamous Harp brothers, "Frontier Justice". Trudy's work is in the form of three files (two of them quite large) in the pdf format. You will need to have or download a copy of the free Acrobat Reader program in order to view the files. Instructions are given as to downloading the free program. The two large files take a few moments to open completely, even if you have a high-speed internet connection. But you can begin reading while the remainder of the file loads. I sincerely hope all of you will be able to read and enjoy Trudy's splendid work, which you can find at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kywebste/families/herrin/herron-info.htm Thank you Trudy for sharing your research with us! Can you guys see how excited I am about this?? I'm going to go read the whole thing again right now. <grin> Carole Palmer Webster County KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kywebste/ Webster County KY USGenWeb Archives http://www.usgwarchives.org/ky/webster/webster.html My Personal Genealogy Site http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cpalmer/index.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to KYWEBSTE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Carol, I haven't been busy with my genealogy for some time but I read the Herron research and it was terrific. Tell Trudy it was a job well done. I have some additional information about the Herron line. My grandfather Everett M. Jenkins, son of William Riley Jenkins, both from Webster County were some how related to the Herron family of Webster County. E. M. Jenkins did business with a Roy Herron who owned a Gulf Service Station in Princeton, Ky in the 1940-late 1960. He told me he always bought gas from Roy Herron because they were distant relatives. He also had a niece Jewell who married a Herron. Jewell had a sister named Doy Ruth and their father was George Jenkins or George Hill from Webster County. I have little information on "Uncle George" but have pictures of Jewell and Doy Ruth and would like information from any one that has them in their line. Both of them were born between 1910 and 1920 . Thanks for keeping us updated, Linda Larson -------------- Original message from "Helen W.
