I just noticed that the website Footnote.com is offering access to it's collection of U.S. Civil War records for this month. It includes Union Service Records for the State of Kentucky, including the Misc records for each unit. There is a lot of free information here that you can take advantage including records, photos, and maps that are outside of Kentucky. You can browse for records from Footnote from the website(http://www.footnote.com/) or go to (http://go.footnote.com/civilwar/) to get to the Civil War section. You do not have to become a member of Footnote to obtaint the free records. All I am trying to do is help others get records if they can use it. Amy
Thanks to Sherri Bradley for the following heads-up: Free Access to Historical Newspapers on Footnote.com Footnote.com is offering free access to all the historical newspapers on the company's web site. On Footnote you will find newspapers ranging from small towns to major cities and dating back to the 1700's. Whether a historian or a genealogists, historical newspapers are one of the best resources that provide a unique window into the past. These newspapers will remain free to the public through the end of May. You can search the databases without registration but a free registration is needed to view the images. To access the Footnote.com newspaper collections visit <http://www.footnote.com/newspapers> www.footnote.com/newspapers. I can't say for sure about the records still being in the attic, but you should ask them. Have you tried putting a query on the Webster Co., KY (usgenweb)? Carole Palmer who is the List Mom, is very knowledgeable about Webster Co., KY. _http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kywebste/_ (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kywebste/) I went to the County Court Clerks office this week but did not find anything and they did not tell me about any records in the attic. I will check again sometime. -----Original Message----- From: kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of JANLWH@aol.com Sent: Saturday, May 01, 2010 8:21 AM To: kywebste@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYWEBSTE] James Russell-Amanda Townsend Have you gone to the Court House in Dixon? James and Amanda married in Hopkins Co, KY on Aug. 31, 1848. They show up in the Union Co. 1850 census with one child, Lydia. Amanda is in the 1860 census with more children in Union Co, and in the 1870 and 1880 census in Webster Co with the children that remain at home. James only shows up in the 1850 census. The youngest child Eliza Jane Russell married Jobe B Edens and her death certificate indicates that James was her father. She was born in 1868 leaving me to believe that James lived at least until the 1867/1868 time period. I have been unable to locate the parents of James. I cannot find a death certificate for either James or Amanda. No will for either was found in Webster Co. I have checked the Webster Co Cemetery books and found no record of James or Amanda. Their son James is buried at Slover. The death certificate for Eliza shows that she was buried at Little Zion but no marker, there is a marker for Job B Edens her husband and several sandstones near his marker and appears to be on the same lot. I have checked to see if there are records for the cemetery as to owns the lot, no records. I believe that Amanda is the daughter of Littleton Townsend, son of James Townsend. No definite proof. I do not know Littleton's wife's name. Does anyone have any records of these families. I believe that the children of James and Amanda are Lydia, James, John, Samuel, Mary (Polley), Eliza Jane, and the youngest Alford. Help!

I have uploaded a genealogy file I made by converting the census transcription project at http://files.usgwarchives.org/ky/webster/census/1870/ into a GEDCOM file, which can be imported into any genealogy software (Open a new folder to import into.) and read by a variety of utilities. This free file is a finding aid for the transcription project. It is uploaded at http://gedcomlibrary.com/gedcoms/v209033.ged and linked at http://gedcomlibrary.com/vitals.html Tom Alciere

Ok, the google map I looked at compared to the county map link sent be Carol show Luzon and little Zion about the same spot just past the intersection of state highway 983 & 1063. Carole Thanks for the response. We corresponded several years ago. I have recently retired and getting back to doing research. Trying to work on one of my dead ends. Don't want to bore you but James Russell married Amanda (Mandy) Townsend in Hopkins Co in 1848. They are in the 1850 Union Co census. She and kids are in the 1860 census in Union. She and kids are in 1870 and 1880 Webster Census. No death records, and I have not found them in any of the Webster Co cemetery books. I have found a death certificate online for the youngest daughter and it looks like a Mauklin Funeral home in Clay handed the arrangements and was buried at Luzon. This may be what we call Little Zion today. I cannot find any reference to James in the 1860, 70, or 80 census but she kept having children. So where was he during the census? Also, why no death records? The real interest is who are the Parents of James and Amanda? -----Original Message----- From: kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kywebste-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Carole Palmer Sent: Wednesday, February 24, 2010 8:16 PM To: kywebste@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYWEBSTE] Webster Co, KY Hi Darrell....According to Thomas Field's Guide to Kentucky Place Names, Luzon is in Webster County near Dixon. I don't see Mauklin Cemetery in the list of Webster County Cemeteries that we have online at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ky/webster/cemeteries/cemlist.txt Maybe someone who lives closer to the area will be able to help you. Does anyone know where Luzon, KY is located? Also, was there a Mauklin Funeral Home in Clay, Webster Co. Both are from a KY death certificate. Darrell Cole
