    1. [KYWEBSTE] private response to post on the KY list
    2. I was writing you a letter when it suddenly disappeared. I didn't know if it went out or not. I am using my laptop and accidently hit the touch pad with my thumb. I would be interested in your books, if she isn't. I have a great interest in Webster county because my mom's family lived there since before it was Webster County. I have deep roots in the area, but no books yet. 3. Thank you to all who responded to my query re hotels/motels in Hopkins/Webster Co area. We are going to stay in Madisonville at least two nights. It is actually our second trip there, but the other trip was in 1991 and my memory is not that great anymore. Don't have a clue as to where we stayed, at that time. 3. Vera: I am in exactly your situation, in that I have collected so many books and journals relating to W.KY; and, of course, many other Counties and States. I have decided to donate them to the LDS Family History Center in Boise, Idaho. While I am not LDS, I feel strongly that they have so helped all of us research our families and are very deserving of my donation. We have a daughter who lives in Boise. They have a very nice small facility and are always so very welcoming and helpful when we "pop in" there. Also, I know that any number of local libraries would love to have your donation. Thank you for your offer, but the small area I have is already spilling over onto the surrounding floor. 3. Interesting! I would direct you to a Perry County OH web site that has a page of interesting material about old pioneer customs and habits: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tfisher/fphpart5chap4.htm The part about infairs is near the bottom of the page - you can use your browser's search function to search for "infair" if you don't want to read the entire thing - but the whole thing is interesting. I love the part about how well the horses get into the spirit of the celebration. <grin> I found this by googling the phrase "old wedding customs - infair" and got a lot of hits. Last year I heard a speaker say she had about given up her bookmarks and was mainly using Google to find where she wanted to go. I've almost reached that same place myself. 1. [KYWEBSTE] New Kentucky statewide search
    2. Carole Palmer
    3. KYGenWeb state coordinator Sherri Bradley has put in place a great new Google search feature for Kentucky researchers and I've added it to the Webster County site. It's a statewide search engine for the *entire KYGenWeb Project.* It searches the files at http://www.kygenweb.net, each Kentucky county site, the KYGenWeb Special Projects and the KY USGenWeb Archives. So for those of you whose families lived in several counties around the state, now you can search your surnames for *all Kentucky counties* instead of going to each county site individually and searching. Of course, if you want to search *only the Webster County site* for your surnames, you can still do that using our countywide search box with the heading SEARCH THIS SITE. To avoid confusion the new statewide search box is about halfway way down the main page of the Webster County homepage and is marked with a bright red "NEW" logo. The link to the Webster County site is in my signature line below, as usual. Hope it's not as hot and dry where you are as it is here in Kentucky. After that, the usual yearly Ancestry dues will apply. 2. Fellow genealogists and anyone concerned with preserving our sacred cemeteries, The History Channel and Time Warner are sponsoring a 'Save Our History' grant award for which anyone can go online and cast their vote. Voting ends THIS FRIDAY April 27th, so time is short. We were fortunate that our restoration project was chosen as a finalist. The JCOGS is the only genealogy society or cemetery project to be chosen as one of the five finalists, so I truly hope that you will go to the Time Warner website and cast your vote for the James Cemetery project. If awarded this grant, we will use 100% of the grant to begin installing an antique-style aluminum alloy fence around the perimeter in order to help halt further desecration of this sacred and historic burial ground. You can read more about our James Cemetery project at the Time Warner 'Save Our History' voting website. Please unite with us as a group of genealogists concerned about the ever-increasing destruction of our cemeteries by VOTING for us at the website below. And note also that ANYONE with Internet access can VOTE so please forward this email to your genealogy circle of friends and ask THEM to vote too! 1. [KYWEBSTE] Shelton Acorns & 1860 Webster County census
    2. Carole Palmer
    3. Greetings, Webster County researchers, I hope spring has arrived where you live. It arrived here in central Kentucky in late March; then it retreated for a week. We are hoping for better things starting tomorrow and that spring will soon be here to stay. Vonette Shelton Curtis has sent us her "Shelton Acorns" manuscript - the history of Vonette's Sheltons who came to western Kentucky in the early 1800's. Take a look: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywebste/families/shelton/acorns-index.htm Today Carol Williams Huff sent me an updated annotation for her family's 1860 Webster County census listing. As I made the changes to Carol's annotation, I happened to think maybe others have found additional or conflicting information to annotations sent to me for their families' 1860 census listings. After all, the 1860 Webster County census project went online in March 1999 and I began to accept annotations shortly after that. I know most of us have added to our research during that six-year period. So if you have material that needs to be changed or new material that needs to be added to our 1860 census annotations, please feel free to send it to me. Be sure to present your material in the way you want to see it online, because I will not be editing material for clarity. And if you don't note the correct household number for the annotation, chances are I won't be able to figure out where it belongs. btw, the Webster County 1860 census can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywebste/census/1860/householdnumbers.htm Notice the census is still not indexed; if any of you techies out there want to undertake a project that would consist of an every-person index in which the names would link to the actual census household listing, it would welcomed by all, I am sure. Hugs, Carole Palmer Webster County KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywebste/

This one is the 1870 Webster County Mortality Schedule http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywebste/census/1870-mortality.htm This schedule contains a list of Webster County persons who died during the year ending the 1st of June 1870. We all know the problems finding KY death records prior to 1911 so the mortality schedules are a great resource. Thanks again, Brenda, for your generosity to Western Kentucky researchers.
