    3. Sorry everyone, I have been out of town working and not following along. Chesley Vaughn was my great grandfather. He was born 29 Jan 1868 in Clay, Webster Co. to Andrew Jesse Vaughn and his second wife Martha Hill md 13 May 1864 Webster Co. A. J. was previously married to Nancy Dye and had 8 children I have documented with Nancy. He had two with Martha. Grandpa Chesley was married to Julia Franklin Dills 10 Apr 1887 in Webster Co. They had 11 children my grandmother Emma Cleveland Vaughn Stewart was my grandmother. When Julia died in 1936 he married a second time to Mrs. Lula Holtsclaw Phillips 12 Feb 1938 Providence, Webster Co., and she died in 1940 and he then married Mrs. Laura Laub Dore/Dare 11 Oct 1945 in Dixon. I don't know whether she died or they divorced but my grandmother moved in to their home and cared for him until he died 18 Apr 1957 in Providence, Webster Co. Julia Franklin Dills was the daughter of Benjamin J. Dills and Sarah E. Skinner. 2. Janet, Thanks for your email to the group. I grew up in Henderson but my father, grandparents and greatgrndparents on both sides are from Webster County. I am planning a research trip in the spring to Webster & Caldwell counties and iIwould not have know about the research material in the attic if not for you. My ggreat grandparents from Webster county was Willis Bud Jenkins and Enoch Morehead. I have had contact with others there about them and i have done extensive research on the Jenkins family that came out of NC. My daughter now lives in Jacksonville, NC. and hed husband is a US Marine now in Iraq. My grandson and I are planning on going up towards Nags Head during Christmas break to locate William Jenkins orginal land grants from VA. Thanks again for your advice and email me direct if you have any other information on research in Webster County or Clay KY. 3. That's fascinating, Francis! I really have no information on Jonathan Eddings except his name and the information from the marriage bond from Wake Co., NC, when he married Levina Nichols (called Nancy Eddings in her father Josiah Nichols' 1823 Wake Co. will) on 2 Dec 1806. Levina was born (I think) in Bertie Co., NC, but the family moved to Wake. Her father Josiah was in the Revolutionary War. I don't have a daughter named America for John and Levina. Are you talking about a different John? I have daughters Amanda and Amelia for them. Joanne

    3. My line of the family came in at James Town, VA about 1790. They went over the mountains to what Union Co. at that time. It was later devided part of it became Webster county. John my great-great grand father had a daughter named America age sixteen, she kept a log on dry animal skins of the treak across the mountains. She later transcribed it to parchment. Later a lady in Clay, KY got it and put it in the local newspaper and I have a copy of it. 1. Re: [KYWEBSTE] Tornadoes hit Hopkins, Webster and Daviess
    2. Several years ago, our house was hit by large hail from a nearby tornado. We didn't have any visible damage and the roof looked OK. But we did see an insurance inspector on the roof across the street so we decided to call our insurance company. They came out and inspected the roof (which we though was fine) and told us that the damage was so bad that we needed a totally new roof! The force of the hail weakened the shingles and the Inspector told my husband that in a few years time, this could break through and cause water damage to the sub roof and then mold! He also showed my husband the damage to the rain gutters (something else that my husband couldn't see from the ground)! They also had to be replaced. My husband just said that he believes that it just cost us the deductible which was either $250 or $500 but well worth it. They explained to us that hail can cause damage that you can't see from the ground. So I would suggest that if you are in this of area of KY and had hail, it might be best to have the roof checked out.
