Dear friends.... Betty Sellers has let me know that her sister-in-law, Jane Sellers McBroom, died yesterday (May 17) at her home in Indianapolis. Jane has been one of the most generous contributors to the Webster County site since its inception in April 1996, as well as my personal friend. I'm sure many of you have benefited from information Jane contributed to our web site. Jane also stepped up and helped with the Message Board queries; she truly enjoyed helping people. We have missed her during her recent illness and we will continue to miss her. Visitation will be at Schneider Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon IN. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery in Sebree. When I know times and dates, I will post them here. I have an old Henderson CO cem book but it does not have Lewis and Martha Duncan Handley Keller in it. Lewis died bet 1870-1880 and Martha died bet. 1900 and 1910. Martha was in Webster CO in 1870 and 1880, widowed in 1880. Could someone look up those two and find their death dates? Lewis probably died in Webster CO (Poole Mill-Sebree) as they lived there in 1870. Martha was in the Anthoston area or Henderson CO, living with an adult child in 1900, but since I cannot find her in the old book I have, she may be buried with Lewis, wherever he is buried. Martha is my gg grandmother. Thanks. I just finished posting the November and December 1958 obituaries to the Webster County Message Board at: http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.webster/mb.ashx This completes the 1958 obituaries from the Providence Journal-Enterprise and brings the total number of messages on the Webster County Message Board to over 17,000, the majority of which are obituaries. This is a rich resource that you shouldn't overlook when researching; I often append a "note from the compiler" if I have additional information about the subject of the obituary. I'll be starting on the microfilm of 1959 obits within the next few days. As soon as I get each month completed, I will put them online. Since March is a month with lots of college basketball that requires my attention, don't start looking for January 1959 obits until after the first of April. <grin> It's a very windy, but warm, day in Kentucky. I'm hearing colder weather will return in a few days but I'm hoping the weatherman is wrong. Hugs, Carole Palmer Webster County KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywebste/

Does anyone know of a John Logan Childers? When and where he died? He was born in Hopkins Co. in 1874 to Andrew T. Childers and Edna(Edney) King, later married Jodie Dallas Clayton, who died in 1907. He then remarried an Emma Hart. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks so much for posting the obit for Mamie. I had not heard about her passing. I never met her in person, but she was super nice via email. She helped me out so much at times. I will miss her greatly as will many others. Maria Troutman Ohio

Dot Lauver informs me that Mamie Tate, one of our Webster County lookup helpers, died on December 29th, 2007. There will be a private memorial at a later date. I'm sure many of you shared connections with Mamie so you may want to contact her family. Dot says expressions of sympathy and condolences to the family may be sent to Mamie's email address: mamie@sigecom.net Let's hope we have better news to report here in 2008 than we have had in 2007. Big hugs, Carole Palmer Webster County KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywebste/

Here's a tip from the current issue of "Wilderness Road", the quarterly of the Bullitt County KY Genealogical Society, whose editor is Betty Darnell. "Did you know the National Genealogical Society has placed its book collection at the St. Louis County, Missouri Library? Did you know these books are available for interlibrary loan? Visit the St. Louis County Library NGS Special Collection Online Library Catalog at www.ngsgenealogy.org/bookloan.cfm to browse the collection and locate books of interest. Look for the books in the circulating collection. They carry the notaion: "SLCL-NGS Collection." When you find a book of interest, please print the entire record. You may request two books per loan. Take the printed catalog records to your local library, along with the interlibrary loan instruction page." Merry Christmas, friends. Hugs, Carole Palmer Webster County KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywebste/
Just thought I'd add a note. My mom just had her left knee replaced in September. She's 93, still lives alone, drives - and takes care of her own affairs. She sailed through the experience. I don't think after the first week she took any pain meds. She says the best part is that her knee doesn't hurt anymore any time it rains!
