He graduated from West Point with his 18449 class. General Charles William Fields was initially appointed the colonel for the 6th Virginia Cavalry. Colonel Field was later commissioned brigadier general to rank from March 9th, 1862 and transferred to infan- try service. General Field led his brigade in the Seven Days Battle the Cedar Mountain Battle, and Second Manassas Battle.
