Hi Listers, Just a brief update on the DNA study. We now have 87 members in the group, from the US, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, Australia, New Zealand, and Barbados. The study has revealed interesting connections for many of us - and an interesting lack of connections for many of us. Some of the matches the study has made are across continents and we have cross-matched with other surnames. Our Fitzpatrick group also includes the names Patrick, Shera, Sheridan, Moore, Stanley and Gray, all having some connection (whether historically or genetically) to the name Fitzpatrick. One Fitzpatrick in Australia was able to prove her link with the Fitzpatricks from Co. Laois and also to find her ancestry listed in Steve and Ronan's book, Bryan Lord and First Baron of Upper Ossory - proving her family line both genetically and on paper. We are actively seeking new Fitzpatricks to participate. We especially need Fitzpatricks who know where their family came from in Ireland, so that the rest of us can find our roots in the Old Country. We are especially interested in African American Fitzpatricks. We have only one Fitzpatrick from Scotland - we would like more. To Participate, you must be a male, descended along the exclusively male line of Fitzpatricks (no women allowed), or you must have one to represent you. The cost for the basic test is $155, and for the advanced test, $195. Even if this is steep for you, please contact us anyway. From time to time, some of our members have sponsored Fitzpatricks who otherwise would not have been able to participate. You might also consider sharing the cost of a test with other relatives, as one person can represent the whole family. I have updated our DNA website to reflect recent developments.
