There were alarming arrangemnts being made at virtually every level to draw these states into their fold. On September 3rd, 1861 there is a military move in Kentucky which presses their alignment even further than they'd ima- gined. Confederate General Leonidas Polk orders confederate troops into the state of Kentucky. He'd wanted to maintain southern positions within their boundaries. These troops are under the command of General Gideon Pillow This logistical move effectively terminates Kentucky's neu- tral status in the War for Southern Independence.
