Unfortunately, this was a tragedy in many families. Wayne Co., KY was a so-called buffer state. There were about as many pro-Union as there were pro-Confederate sympathizers. Feelings ran high, even between family members, and there were many killings as the soldiers came home . . . from both sides. Wayne County was not the only county; this happened in most of the KY/TN border counties.
