Faye, Add the prolific numbers of Bells to the problem of their nomadic nature. I haven't seen a Bell family yet that didn't have family just all over the country.? They wander all over the place!? The longest my Bells stayed put was during the period between 1810 and 1880. My line was all located in Warrick County, Indiana.? Of?course, the other half?of the brothers were in Hardin and Grayson?Counties, Kentucky. ?After that, they spread out and there was just no finding them. Now they can be found in almost every state in the union. Even with John Bell's will, we had two John Bell's to sort out.? Seems there were two of them who settled in the area. And both had wives named Margaret. It would have been so easy to assume they were one and the same, since the other John Bell's father-in-law wrote a will and named his daughter Margaret Bell and husband John Bell as heirs.? We would have had the surname of his wife. As it is, we have no idea who his first wife was, since he married her in Pennsylvania. -----Original Message----- From: Fay Clark <gmcflc@gmail.com> To: kywayne@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 25 Nov 2007 12:53 am Subject: Re: [KYWAYNE] BELL surname Wendy, I'm so sorry. It vaguely rings a bell (no pun intended), but I see so much information on a daily basis, that I'm hard put to remember it all. When there's something to connect to, it helps tremendously, but in this case I guess I did not see anything to connect to at the time. Your friend might benefit from the dna comparison if she can come up with a male descendant to test. Of course, we still need to come up with some bona fide male descendants for Joseph Bell and Lindsey Bell to participate in the dna project, too. Wish I could help with your Bell line. I was reading in the Bell DNA Project today that there were 174 patriots with the Bell surname during the Revolution. There were over 16,000 Bells in the 1870 census. I thought the Clarks were prolific, but they are a drop in the bucket compared to all the Bell lines floating around.
