    3. Hello Fay and list, Grandmother Myrtie Maynard married Joseph Freeman. He was born in Fentress, TN, in 1880, she was born in Russell Co., KY, in 1897, her father James M. Maynard was born in Fentress, TN, in 1864, died in TN, in 1931. The last census I could find of S. Maynard was in 1870 in Fentress Co. TN, who was James' father, as far as I can tell. Will post this on the list again. Guess I did not make myself clear. Sorry, not thinking to clearly, had a small surgery on Tuesday.S.Maynard was born in 1843 and Adeline in 1844. However, my confusion is that I cannot find a father or mother for S. Maynard and/or Adeline anywhere. I wanted to find out because I am going to see my brother in Utah in Sept and wanted to surprise him with all of the Trees. Thanks again, Lea > Lea, > > Do you have any dates for James M. Maynard? 1. [KYWAYNE] Maynard, and Allied Families
    2. Anna L Bertram
    3. Hi Lea! I've been chasing an Anderson Maynard or Mainard (etc.) for a long time. I may have already sent this information to you, but just in case. Hope it helps more than it confuses. Anderson, son of Andrew, lived in DeKalb and Fentress Co., TN, Clinton, Wayne Co., and Metcalfe Co., KY. do you have anything on Anderson Maynard? Also hope you're fully recovered from your surgery now. Hugs, Anna Bertram Descendants of Anderson Maynard Generation No. 1 1. ANDERSON2 MAYNARD (ANDREW1 MAINARD) was born Abt. 1831 in White Co., Tennessee. He married ELIZABETH "BETSY" SHELTON, JR. Bef. 1860 in Fentress Co., TN?. She was born Abt. 1829 in Tennessee. Notes for ANDERSON MAYNARD: 1850 DeKalb Co., Tennessee Census; Civil District 14; Page 47-B; Sept. 28th; Line 32; Houshold and Visit #681-681: MAINARD, Andrew, age 45, male, no ocupation, born in South Carolina, cannot read or write; Elizabeth, age 40, female, S.C., can't read or write; Anderson, age 19, male, day laborer, born in TN; Mikajah, age 18, male, day laborer, TN; Caroline, age 17, female, TN; Jane, age 16, TN; Nancy, age 14, TN; Wayman, age 11, TN; Ezekiel, age 8, TN; Harsetta, female, age 5, TN; Samuel, age 1, TN 1860 Clinton Co., KY Census; hh # 10: MAYNARD, A. 30, male, farmer, TN; E. 29, female, knitting, TN; Wayman 6, male, TN; Faraseta 15, female, knitting, TN; Eliza, 60, female, sewing, TN 1868, May NOTE BY ANNA BERTRAM REGARDING 1860 CENSUS: The head of the household is Anderson MAYNARD, the wife is Elizabeth, the 6 year old named Wayman later went as Wayman RIGNEY. Also, the 15 year old Farasetta was Anderson's sister, shown as Harsetta on the 1850 DeKalb Co., TN Census and the Eliza, age 60, was apparently Anderson's mother altough she aged 20 years since the last census! 1870. October 26th - Anderson Maynard was Bondsman for the marriage in Wayne Co., Kentucky of Elzy Buttram (aka Elza S.L. Bertram) and Jane Mannan (aka Mary Jane Manning). Mary Jane Manning was the daughter of John Howard Manning, Sr. and Mariah Matthews. 1875 - Elizabeth MANNING married John CANTRELL in Metcalf Co., Kentucky, in the home of ANDERSON MAYNARD. This Elizabeth MANNING was born December 5, 1856 in Tennessee and died February 27, 1937 in Oklahoma. She was the daughter of John Howard MANNING, SR., and Mariah MATTHEWS of Bledsoe Co., Tennessee and Wayne Co., Kentucky. Her father died during the Civil War, but what her relationship to Anderson Maynard was or why she was in Metcalf Co., Kentucky is a puzzlement. An Elizabeth MAYNARD was on the roll of Beech Bottom United Baptist Church, Clinton Co., KY when it was constituted by members of the Clear Fork Church. Jane BERTRAM and Alvin BERTRAM were also. 1870 Wayne Co., KY Census; Slickford District 3; P.O. Monticello, KY; June 18, 1870; hh #176: MAYNARD, Anderson 35, Farmer $200 TN: Elizabeth 34, Keeps House, TN; Perry 19, TN; Reece 16, TN; Wayman, 14, (male), TN. (NOTE BY ANNA BERTRAM:Perry, Reece and Wayman later went by the last name of RIGNEY.) According to Family Search on the internet on February 12, 2000, for Anderson MAYNARD: There were three entries, all showed him born about 1831 to Elizabeth WILLIAMS and Andrew MAYNARD. One showed his place of birth as Putnam Co., TN, one as DeKalb Co., TN; and one as White Co., TN. The first two counties were not yet formed by 1831 so he probably was born in White Co., TN. I have a copy of a deed dated 23 March 1867 in which the heirs of Griffith RIGNEY are conveying title to a man named Anderson MAYNARD for land belonging to Griffith RIGNE on Caney Creek, Fentress Co., Tennessee. In the margin is written Original Book K, pages 181, 82, & 83. As sent to me by Wilma Crabtree Gibson: ""Fentress Co., TN Deed Book K, Pages 49-50; Heirs of Griffith RIGNEY sold to Anderson MAYNARD of Van Buran Co., Tennessee fir $350 three tracts of land in District #7; Tract #1 (Wilma over looked copying it.) Tract #2 on waters of Caney Fork, mentions BEANS line. Tract #3 on waters of Caney Fork, mentions Margaret HARMON's and Jesse BEAN'S line."" (NOTE from Anna Bertram: Jesse BEAN was an early settler in what is now Fentress Co., TN. He owned land in 1845 on Caney Creek which his widow, Jane BEAN, sold to John R. GWINN; Book D; 127 ) Wilma' list of heirs agrees with what I already had. She adds " This Anderson MAYNARD sold his titles and rights, so he too must be an heir of RIGNEY, and if one reads the deed carefully, so are those who had the KEITH name CATH. I don't know how they are heirs, but all these people are heirs of Griffith RIGNEY." (NOTE FROM ANNA BERTRAM: Griffith's daughter, Mary "Polly" RIGNEY, married John KEITH and that is how the KEITH or CATH name came into the picture.) The deed is signed by the heirs as follows: Line 1: James (X) Jones, Lary (X) Jones; Line 2: Jeremiah Rigney (X); Cresey RIGNEY (X) her mark; Line 3: James S. Guin, Betty Guin (X); Line 4: Bluford Rigney (X), William Rigney (X) Line 5: John Keith (X) his mark, Mary Keith (X) The names on this deed need some explanation due to clerical errors, poor handwriting, etc.! Line 1: James JONES, son-in-law, and Lary JONES, which should be "Sary" or Sarah JONES, Griffith RIGNEY'S illegitimate daughter by Nancy JENNINGS. She is referred to later in the document as "Say" JONES. Line 2: Jeremiah RIGNEY, believed to be the son of Griffith RIGNEY through Betsy SHELTON; Cresey RIGNEY is a mystery! I think it is possible she was actually the Cresey SHELTON who married Jeremiah "Jerry" RIGNEY, and was the daughter of Elijah SHELTON. Since she would not be a blood heir of Jeremiah RIGNEY as a daughter-in-law it implies that her mother was an unknown daughter of Griffith RIGNEY and was deceased before Griffith RIGNEY died. Perhaps Elijah SHELTON had this one daughter with a daughter of Griffith RIGNEY? These two families are quite challenging to sort out! Line 3: James S. G___ was the only one who signed his name instead of using a mark (X), and his was practically illegible. I am certain it was GUIN, which name was spelled other ways such as GWIN, GWINN, GUINN, etc. There was a James GUIN who witnessed the marriage of Griffith's granddaughter, Lavina RIGNEY, when she married Henry STINSON in Wayne Co., KY in 1861. There was a James S. GUINN in Clinton Co., KY about 1890, perhaps earlier. James S. GUINN was married to Angeletta RIGNEY, whom I believe was the one the clerk incorrectly trascribed as <Betty> when she was introduced to him as "Letty" or "Letta". Line 4: Bluford RIGNEY, son, William RIGNEY, son. Line 5: John KEITH, son-in-law, and Mary KEITH, daughter. Wilma Gibson sent me some more on this transaction: "In Book K p. 99 - 100 RIGNEY HEIRS to Anderson MAYNARD, 3 tracts of land 60 a., 25 a. and 25 a. for $350. First tract was part of a grant to John HARVE ?? (had been written over and hard to read) on Caney Fork, mentions James OVERTON'S fence. Tract 2 mentions Robert BLAIR'S line, now Jesse BEAN'S, also mentions "the house". It, too, is on Caney Fork. The third tract mentions Margaret HARMON and Jesse BEAN'S corner. It too is on Caney Fork. Signed: James JONES, Jeremiah RIGNEY, James GUINN, Blufend RIGNEY, John KEITH, Lary JONES, Cresy RIGNEY, Billy GUINN, Wm. RIGNEY, Mary KEITH; March 1867." Now, who is Billy GUINN? Seems we need to obtain a copy of this deed as well. Book K, page 296; Feb. 17, 1869 Anderson MAYNARD sold to James A. SHELTON the same tracts of land for $350. Attest: John SHELTON, Wm. W. SHELTON By 1870 Anderson MAYNARD was in Wayne Co., KY, next door to Griffith's granddaughter, Lavina (RIGNEY) STINSON, and her family. 1870 Wayne Co., KY Census; Slickford District; P.O.
