    1. [KYWAYNE] Re: Hughes
    2. June Bork
    3. The Hughes name sounded familiar and out of curiosity, I checked the marriage records. Calvin G. Hughes married first, 28 June 1849 in Wayne to MARTHA ANN HORSEY by William Hall, JP. The Bondsman was Edward Malona. Apparently, Martha was the mother of his children shown in 1860. The 1860 Census of Wayne is dated Aug 2, showing Calvin G. with his new wife KISIAH STRINGER. They were married earlier that year on 28 April (1860) at the house of B.S. Hughs by Martin Back, JP. Present at the wedding was Richard and Nancy Stringer (witnesses) with Bondsman, Bolen Roberts. Mrs. NANCY HUGHES lived with Calvin in 1860, age 63 (b.1797) NC. A John Hughes married in Wayne on 20 Dec 1816 to NANCY ALEXANDER by Roger Oatts, JP. John and Nancy are not listed on the 1820 Wayne, but may be living in house of the only Hughes family: MRS. ANNE HUGHES who was head of house, age over 45 (b.bef 1775), with a male the same age and another male the right age to be John, 26/45 (b.1775-1794) and a female, age 16/26 (b.1794/1804), which could be Nancy, nee Alexander, plus others in the house. In 1830 Census, p.229, there is Nathan (Nathaniel) Horsey, age 50/60 (line 13). Calvin named a son Nathaniel, no doubt after his father in law (?). Five houses down, Line 18 is Nancy Hughes as head of house, apparently a widow by this time, with a son age 0/5, b. 1825/30 which could be Calvin, b. ca 1829/30. It appears that Martha Ann Horsey and Calvin were raised in the same neighborhood. I hope this has helped. Regards, June P.S. Yes, there were other Hughes/Hughs/Houghs in Wayne. >From: "carolyn beard" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [KYWAYNE] Hughes >Date: Sat, 06 Sep 2003 22:50:57 +0000 > >Deanna, Hi.
