Is anyone familiar with the collection in Monticello, Wayne Co., KY at the courthouse? Would they still have chattel deeds dating from the late 1830s? I'm interested in finding the record of a sale of cattle from someone in Wayne Co., KY to someone in Oktibbeha Co., MS area. My great great grandfather Walton A. Harris supposedly met his wife Margaret Mosely (in Pulaski Co., Tenn.) while driving the cattle to the new owners. I'd like to find a record of the sale, if possible, to see who his employer might have been and to see if I can find any other clues. However, I don't want to waste a trip if the courthouse doesn't still have this type of material from this era.
